1. Paid “Tap History” is low-quality and guarantees nobody sees taps. Why use them now?

   Tonight I logged in to check my taps after I was out and about only to find they are now all blurred (even the latest one) as if they were as interesting to see as views. While I’d pay to see views, I’d never pay to see taps. They are very low quality and 90% of them are spammed from the same guys I don’t like and you couldn’t force me to like without it being rape. Today, sending taps are effectively sending messages into a void that the recipient will likely never see. It’s almost pointless now.

   I would like to preface this with the fact that I subscribe to XTRA on occasion and unsubscribe when I encounter job instability or a shift in priorities from worrying about men- because sometimes it just does not matter. Historically speaking, I don’t subscribe to dating apps for more than a few months at a time, so aiming for 100% subscription retention rates is unrealistic

   I get this is a persuasion to subscribe to XTRA, correct? Was it an extra feature or something that was free for several years? I would respect the cash grab if it meant putting in work making an extra feature that’s actually good, serves a common need and adds to the value of Grindr. However, “tap history” feels like selling me garbage. A slap in the face. The interactions were already low-quality in the first place. I send them as, “you probably won’t like me but I’m interested if you’re interested”, which feels as mutual and respectable as it gets.

   Making this feature paid only decreases the likelihood I even send taps in the first place, because now THERE IS A 100% CHANCE users do not see taps I send, especially if the most recent tap is blurred and paywalled.

   To the product managers of Grindr, you are basically killing off the “Tap” feature at this point, there is no reason to send them or even look at them because you just can’t.

   TIP: If XTRA (or even Unlimited) came with more specific filters for my type and taste in men, there is a 100% chance I’d subscribe more often just to see more men that I’m more likely to be into. That would be incredibly helpful and I’d pay for such efficiency because it saves years of my life searching. But to kill off taps and put them behind a paywall is such a low for a product value proposition. Out of ideas to sell? Why has nobody thought about showing people on my grid I may have seen in public before I went home? Seriously, I’m not sure if the people trying to sell XTRA are thinking the right way here. I’m willing to give you guys money, but not for crap like “tap history”. Ugh.

   You should look at your more recent reviews - particularly in the app stores. 90% of the revirws are 1 star with complaints about restrictions and ads - including all the spam bots which you still get even after you pay.

   It’s probably killing you business model. I am alert using Archer more then here because the ads have overtaken wheat the true purposr / objective of the site. Now it’s not about finding a friend or a mate. It’s about selling something or diverting them away from porn.

   I didn’t come here to took at porn or buy anything. I came here to find friends and mates.

   Your site no longer promotes that. It sells shit.

   I used to be able to pull down on the messages pane in the Android app and a search bar appeared. Now it does a refresh. There is no need for refresh, search is essential. Please restore this critical functionality.

   Change “Middle Eastern” to “West Asian,” and rename “Asian” to “East Asian.”

   “Middle Eastern” is a Euro-centric, outdated label for people from West Asia. A “West Asian” category would be more geographically accurate and more respectful to the many communities currently lumped into “Middle Eastern” or “Other”, including many broader Near Eastern identities. This isn’t about inventing new boxes; it’s about using the correct one for a real region of Asia.

   Also, Grindr already has “South Asian.” That means the current “Asian” label is functioning as “East Asian” in practice, so the taxonomy should reflect that reality. Renaming it to “East Asian” would make the categories clearer and consistent.

   These small updates would improve accuracy, reduce erasure, and help users from West Asia / the Middle East / the Near East feel properly represented on the app!

14. “Hide” is useless. Does nothing useful.

    Removing the option to block someone and only allowing a temporary “Hide” is utterly useless. It accomplishes nothing of actual value to the end user. What value does hiding temporarily actually buy someone? If you don’t want to see or talk to them, block them. The “unblock” option has always been available. ???? I get that Grindr was trying to follow a couple of user asks (couple,) but you alienated the 90% of your users that use block as intended and completely removed the option in many cases to block someone permanently. Makes ZERO sense.

    Since the whole black life matters-movement Grindr adjusted the filters or deleted the filters actually. There is no option to filter on ethnicity for example.

    Besides the fact that a preference in type of guys is not racist, the fact i can’t specify, it fills my grid with a lot of unnecessary profiles i will hide or block anyway.

    I usually compare it to Marktplaats. If i’m looking for a bird, i can also specify my searchresults cause i’m not interested in cats, dogs, fishes or whatever. Same with type of guys on Grindr. It’s not like i’m shifting types because grindr keeps obligating it.

    Same stuff with all the Trans-profiles/fake bot-accounts. I can’t filter that either, at this moment when i open grindr, from the 15 visible profiles, 8 are from trans’people’.

    Don’t think that is what grindr was intentionally created for.

    Hopefully from a different angle and perspective you can also relate that a filter is not a racist thing, but a funnel to specify what type of guys we are looking for.
