VERIFICATION BADGES FOR REAL PEOPLE. or add snapchat to the social media. my pictures have been stolen a lot of times and i feel bad for people who get catfished from it , but it also made people question me if i’m even real or just another cat fish... i link my instagram so people can see i have other social media but i have to keep it private because people keep stealing my pictures to use on grindr.. its much easier to verify if someone is really them from snapchat than it is from instagram or facebook which can easily be faked…. it’s honestly unfair these catfishes can hide behind my pictures telling people i do horrible nasty things and there’s no way for anyone to know that it’s fake or who it really is. i used to get 300-400 views a day, then fake profiles of me started coming up saying i’m HORRIBLE things like i have STDs and i wanna get f*cked for dr*gs & now i get 30-60 views a day… PLEASE ADD VERIFICATION BADGES FOR CONFIRMED REAL ACCOUNTS … it’s not fair.

This is dumb. Don't do this. I can see it being abused a lot.

I didn't know people could create dozens of profiles, don't they need a unique email and phone number for each account? Seems like a lot of work. My friend got blocked and now can no longer use grindr as he only has the one phone number 🙃

So looking through suggestions on here I notice tons of votes for different features and such. What I am surprised is that options involving your sexual health are getting very little attention.
It would seem to be that this should be a top priority when you are using a hookup app. I just got notified today that I have an STD. I know the people I’ve been with. 2 people that I met on Grindr and have their phone numbers. 1 I met on Grindr and no contact information other than chat.
It would be nice to have a feature where at the push of a button I can notify this person anonymously that they may have come in contact with an STD.
The only downside I can see to this is people pushing it to be “funny” or cruel. Maybe make the feature only activated for use if you’ve been within 300 feet of this person. Sexual Heath is very important and I believe a feature like this will help all of us stay healthier and happier.
Also, yes I did notify them all personally.
Please consider this for the immediate future. Just seems like common sense to me.

I see many feature requests here marked as 'PLANNED' like 'adding kink to profile section' or 'hosting/looking now icons' and it baffles me how something like a verification feature does not exist.
It doesn't need to be mandatory, it just just to be an option to keep scammers and catfishes away and to KEEP PEOPLE SAFE. Please support and vote for this feature!
We shouldn't have to ask people to verify their identity by sending a specific picture, or being pressured to give away social media account info or phone numbers. Grindr has a responsibility to keep people safe

Great idea, needs to happen to keep people safe. Other apps have it, so why are we deprived of it here? I pay for EXTRA but this feature should be freely available to everyone. Period.
Totally disagree with the poster below. Verification should be an OPTION, it doesn't need to bemandatory so those who want to stay discreet can...and those who want to make sure they are not being catfished and getting their pics stolen, or worse meeting someone who isn't who they say they are can stay safe.

A mock location is of use
If it's only a short distance, but not suitable for deception. -

I don't need a 100% accurate location, but I don't like setting something up only to learn that the distance is unrealistic.

Big thing would be increased safety going along with that.

Bad idea. It will compel people to show a pic.
Many do not want their photos up and indeed on a location specific app that would most definitely compromise personal security. The reason people hide their faces is not just closet cases but to avoid neighbours seeing or being shown them by third parties, to avoid jealous ex's, to avoid cyber stalkers etc.... Also, many of the faceless prefer to relate intellectually as a priority before showing their faces and indeed many are good-lookers who don't want to be picked up for shallow cosmetic reasons.
If you want proof of identity just ask the person to send a face-pic posed in a certain way or go meet them in the street to check each other out.

I've seen scammers pretending to be women, on a gay dating app.

Have an account identification and verification so as not to be blocked by a simple statement from a stranger or a malicious person

Sure, it is very dangerous to use such application in homophobic countries like Poland Russia or Iran , showing exact location to the neighbors. :(

I would take this to another level and allow users to be hidden from new profiles. If a profile is new, it's likely a troll who makes 50 profiles a month. Giving a grace period would help. Forcing better verification would help as well. Blocking IPs or Mac addresses of people who have been banned would be best.

I agree with those who say this is a bad idea because
1. If you’re worried about this Grindr already allows all users to hide their precise location by hiding distance information. The position on the grid isn’t enough to locate someone.
2. Enabling (which would be tantamount to encouraging) lying is never a good idea on any grounds except perhaps in the most extreme life or death circumstances eg witness protection programmes. If users have that level of imminent fear then spoofing location won’t be enough and they would be best advised to delete the app unfortunately
3. In particular making spoofing easier would increase rather than reduce the problems and the fake accounts. As some have noted it’s already sadly possible on some mobile devices. That’s not something to encourage because it’s those people who scam and deceive and who undermine trust. Let’s not follow that example.Yes, it’s a risk owning up to an aspect of your identity that you fear people will disown you for. It’s the risk we take on coming out. If you’re not ready or able to come out I understand. It takes most of us a bit of time to decide it’s what we want to do. But don’t try to make the rest of us have even more reasons to distrust. It just spoils the reputation of people who’ve done nothing wrong if we are a place of people who lie and deceive. It’s an act of cowardice and I do realise some countries have legal systems that are a threat and I have visited and lived in some of them and yes using an app like this there is frankly a bit more of a challenge but it’s not a reason to encourage everyone to give false information.
As a more general point, I agree with the suggestion another respondent to this idea made that there should be a down vote button not just a vote button against all suggestions. This is standard practice on most similar discussion boards online nowadays.
For the avoidance of doubt, I haven’t clicked the vote button for the idea of enabling spoof position reporting. If I could I would click a button to indicate that I actively reject it.
Many users who don’t agree with a suggestion won’t take the time to write a response to express this. Their opinion therefore will be missed. The responses therefore do not give as insightful or an accurate representation of the views of those responding to the suggestions.

And then Grindr will charge you like another $20 a week for the feature.
