The idea I have isn't like the tinder app idea. However many gays don't know if their crush is gay and need a safe way of finding out w/o getting antagonize. Some men who are not out live in the Grindr shadows. What I recommend is an option for discovery mode. This mode should be safe for both parties and not revealing either men identity until the right data is matched. Allow disable "reply to" in chat feature.
I use gestures on my phone for navigation, this feature leaves me forever stuck in a conversation replying to lines I don't mean to when all I'm trying to do is use my OS native navigation to exit the conversation.

Log off remove from grid
Once you log off from Grindr you should be removed from the discovery grid. Scruff does this and it is great when you don’t want to be seen in the area and just want to be off the app.
