Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

This app is all about helping guys find their type, but in a cowardly concession to a vocal minority of users, you have forced white men who prefer to date white men into the roll of villains and narrow-minded bigots. It should be patently obvious that Including a racial preference is no more prejudicial than any other physical attribute. I’m forced to reject and risk hurting the feelings of well-meaning guys because you are too politically motivated to serve your consumers in the most equitable and honest manner available to you. If it doesn’t change, I won’t be here long.

Other sites such as Adam4adam.com or manhunt.net still have ethnicity filter and no one ever complains about it
Grindr has overreacted and taken it to another level
I don't remember reading anything about anyone complaining about it and Grindr took it away anyways
Seriously thinking of removing my grindr extra subscription, I pay extra every month to be treated the same way as a non paying subscriber
RESTORE the ethnicity filter , its one of the reasons I pay to subscribe because I like certain men -

so ethical filters are not okay but all other filters are? like - age - bodytype - preference for top or bottom etc. all these are okay? and if someone doesn’t like white or far east or asian guys - just because you remove the filter you all of a sudden end up in bed with them??

I love guys from every race, because every race have some amazing dude out there. However, taste and desire always change and evolve. I may like strawberries, but it doesn't mean that I want them everyday! It's the same with guys, diversity is important.
I live in a country where 99% of the guys are white, like me. I was really really happy when I could use grindr to find someone from another background. The only thing you changed by removing this filter is that now I have way less fun, meet with less guys, and spend hours scrolling this app unefficiently.
I was using this ethnicity filter a lot, because some days I wanted a specific type, and another day, I wanted a different one.
It was really a great feature and everyone I know was paying grindr extra just for it. It help us meeting people with different culture and background. For example, I met my best friend using it!

How about removing race altogether if we’re not allow to filter it. It doesn’t make sense to allow filtering of everything else.

Please restore the ethnicity option. There is simply not enough time to spend blocking people so that I can see the kinds of guys I’m attracted to on the App. I have to wade through so many profiles of guys whi I’m simply not ever going to meet or date or look at. I don’t think it’s about being socially conscious. It’s about having an app that allows you to find the kind of person you’re actually attracted to. For example. I’m not going to look at a bunch of fraternity type guys.. when I prefer west Indian or south pacific type guys. Im not sure why this was removed.. I pay EXTRA for this app I do not use it for free. At the very least add it as an option to those of us who pay to use the app on a yearly basis.

We should restore the filter. It is not racist to choose a sexual partner on these grounds. Are we stereotyping someone because of their geographical location? Are we ageist because we prefer a particular age group? No. Ethnicity is just another filter. The few who are racist will continue to be so, please don't punish the decent majority for their bigoted attitudes.
There is a valid place for no ethnicity filters - job applications, medical donors. But choosing an intimate sexual partner is not one of them -

We do need that ethnicity picture to filter not because if somebody's color but I'm sorry I can't take a giant huge monster cock up my ass. So I need to know beforehand what I'm getting involved with.

Getting rid of the race filter has really fucked my chances of meeting someone in my community.
You have done much harm and no good by removing the race filter -

Give guys an option to fill out what kind of guys they are looking for so we could have better match. 95% of the guys here are not into asian. I would hate to waste their/my time by asking.

Did you read any of your comment before posting?
“lay aside his or her social conditioning in order that he or she might engage in sexual intimacy with someone of a gender that they find a complete turn-off, and so it is with race” — You’re missing the entire point. The very idea of finding someone a “complete turn-off” based solely on their race is racist.
I don’t understand how you can relate this to gender and sex at all. In the app store this app’s description reads “gay social network and chat... for gay, bi, trans, and queer people to connect” no where in the official description is it listed or marketed as a hookup app. If that’s what you’d like to use the app for then that’s your choice, however, why, when people are using this app to network and socialize —as intended by its developers —should one be allowed to filter out an entire demographic solely on the basis of race? That’s exactly how systemic racism was formed. What if that was an option on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn? Do you see the problem?
Let’s say that we do want to reel this back to hookups...
“For a lot of us sexual attraction is directly linked to what we perceive to be race [...] since a large number of users are here for a hookup, and they know what they like, no amount of diversity training is going to make them want to have an afternoon of fun with an ethnic group they find repugnant.”
1.) Repugnant? Seriously? You mean to tell me that finding an entire ethnic group “repugnant” isn’t prejudiced? I would like to refer you to my last post. The one you clearly replied to without actually reading.
2.) Why should Grindr continue to give people the tools to perpetuate prejudice and racism? No one is forcing anyone to hookup with someone (again, see my last post.) If you choose to practice prejudice and racism, you’re more than welcome to simply not interact with a person. However, saying that you don’t find someone attractive solely because of race or ethnicity is my and many other well-read users’ points.
3.) “Sexual attraction is directly linked to race” & “They know that they like” - No, it’s not. You’re implying fetishization and exotification... I talked about that, briefly —again in my last post (anyone else starting to see a trend here?) but I’ll give you the Cliff’s notes:
- Finding someone attractive solely by race and ethnicity is fetishization, exotification, and prejudice... which is bad.
- Finding someone unattractive solely by race and ethnicity is prejudice... which is bad.
- Denying someone opportunities, of which would have been afforded to others, solely because of their race or ethnicity is racist (by very definition I might add)... which is bad.
- The “social conditioning” you speak of is the very reason things like systemic racism exist... which is bad.
- Grindr is a social network, just like other social networks, users can choose to use it for hookups if they like as long as their behavior doesn’t break the platforms term of service or make the platform unsafe or unwelcoming for its users... which would be bad.
- Grindr allowing acts of prejudice and racism to persist on their platform makes them complicit... which is bad. -

By simply removing white from the list of ethnicities to filter you could still provide people of color with the option to find members of their own communities. As a south Asian man it’s impossible to find Desi’s on here now.

Why can’t you search by ethnicity? Option not listed.

Please restore this it’s so painful without this. I know many people don’t like people of my race, it’s ok, atleast such filter allowed me to find guys my same ethnicity. By removing this filter u made our lives much much harder. This filter is an option, it does not incite racism
