2. Madonna promotion, please remove it

I have Grindr unlimited and I get this kind of unsolicited spam. The free version is already full of those shit advertisements, does this have to be done in the paid version as well?

3. Remove profile promoting OnlyFans

Recently I have experienced a large influx of profiles and messages that are promoting Onlyfans accounts. This is making it harder to use the app for its intended purpose, finding “meaningful connections” 😆

I also think that OF people are exploiting Grindr users, sometimes promising them S E X in exchange for subscribing, which is obviously not true. Sometimes they even put this on their profile.

Over the last year, I’ve seen onlyfans accounts on Grindr becoming very popular.

The way I think that they exploiting Grindr users is that they tap u, and ur like… “ooog hot guy just tapped me” … getting hundreds of these isn’t fun 🤣

Back to serious chat! My understanding is that this activity is not permitted under your policies:
   • The Help Center’s “Commercial activity and solicitation” page says users may not spam links use Grindr to advertise or buy or sell anything and it gives examples like sending promotional materials for a business or organization.

   • The Community Guidelines state that Grindr is for personal use only and you cannot use it to buy or sell or to advertise or represent a business. They also say public profiles must not promote or sell anything.

   • The Terms and Conditions say users will not use Grindr for any commercial or non-private use including the sale or advertisement of goods or services or providing links to other websites.

   Request / idea:

Please strengthen automated detection and removal of profiles that promote paid content platforms. This could include
   • Keyword and link detection for terms like “OnlyFans” “OF” and common link shorteners and link hubs such as Linktree Beacons and Campsite
   • Heavier throttling or review when a profile sends the same promotional link or message to multiple recipients in a short period

I appreciate that you already use proactive machine learning models and a moderation team. The volume I am seeing suggests additional tuning could meaningfully improve the experience for users who are looking for genuine connections.

4. I am getting endless taps from accounts whose only purpose is to promote their OF (OnlyFans) account. This is not pro-Grindr-community!

If the only reason you’re on Grindr is to promote your OnlyFans account, you should be banned.

7. Ethnicity filter back

Here are some arguments for reinstalling the ethnicity filter:

   1. Freedom of Choice and Preference: Each individual has personal preferences when it comes to selecting a partner, and ethnicity can be one of those preferences, just as age, location, or interests might be. Reinstating the filter would respect users' freedom to express these preferences without needing to block or filter people out afterward.

   2. Voluntary Disclosure: Users have the option to disclose their ethnicity on their profile. If a user chooses to disclose their ethnicity, they are willingly sharing it as part of their identity. Others should have the right to filter based on the information that is voluntarily provided. If users feel uncomfortable, they are free not to disclose their ethnicity.

   3. Avoiding Unintentional Harm: When the filter is removed, users who prefer specific ethnicities might resort to behaviors that can cause harm, such as blocking or excluding others after interactions. This can lead to rejection or awkwardness that could have been avoided with the filter in place. Providing a filter allows for more transparency and avoids negative social interactions later in the process.

   4. Cultural Compatibility: For many people, ethnicity is closely linked with cultural, religious, and familial values. Allowing users to filter based on ethnicity supports cultural compatibility, which can be a key factor in building lasting relationships. It’s not always about racial bias but shared backgrounds and traditions.

   5. Promoting Inclusivity and Diversity: While the removal of the filter may have been intended to avoid exclusion, it might ironically decrease the likelihood of diverse relationships forming. When users can filter according to their preferences, including ethnicity, they are likely to engage more genuinely with people they are interested in. Without it, people may be less inclined to explore profiles they find irrelevant, leading to less engagement overall.

   6. Users Can Already Block by Ethnicity: Even without the filter, people who hold prejudiced views can still exclude others based on ethnicity by manually blocking them after seeing their profiles. Therefore, the absence of the filter does not eliminate racial bias, but merely makes it less transparent. It is more beneficial to make these preferences explicit from the outset rather than fostering hidden forms of discrimination.

   7. Respecting Personal Agency: In a free society, personal choices, as long as they do not harm others, should be respected. Allowing users to filter based on ethnicity acknowledges that individuals have their own preferences and agency in selecting partners. For some, ethnicity might play a role in attraction, comfort, or compatibility, and that should not be dismissed or stigmatized.

These arguments emphasize the importance of personal choice and transparency while acknowledging that people may have legitimate, non-racist reasons for using ethnicity as a filter in the context of social or romantic apps.

If you disagree with these arguments, please be specific. Do not simply accuse others to be "racist".

Here are some arguments for reinstalling the ethnicity filter:

   1. Freedom of Choice and Preference: Each individual has personal preferences when it comes to selecting a partner, and ethnicity can be one of those preferences, just as age, location, or interests might be. 10. STOP UNFAIRLY BANNING GAY MEN!!!

I have been unfairly banned permanently for "hate speech". In reality I just said no the sexual advances from trans women.
Those trans then started telling me to k!ll myself, to f#ck off and die, called me the F slur, called me bigoted and then threatened me and my family. I reported them and I received a message to "be kinder going foward" and when I reported a second time I was told "no action is being taken".
Then I was suddenly banned for "hate speech". I was informed that I am permanently banned because grindr is a safe space for diversity. Do not make me laugh. Grindr was a space for GAY MEN but now we are being forced out of our space for trans people and women.
Stop ignoring the concerns of gay men, start listening to us, stop immediately taking trans side, stop ignoring the reports from gay men about nasty abuse from trans people and women.
Grindr us a disgusting sh!t covered shell of its former self. Women, trans people and trans worshippers have ruined yet another gay space.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

STOP BANNING US !!!!! and give me back my fxcking account while you're at it!!!

14. Photo Verification

Having had my photos used on fake profiles as well as having been tricked using faked photos more times than I would like to admit I feel a photo verification process similar to Tinder’s is very necessary to the safety of users.

16. Introduce Ethicity/Race filter again!

Sometimes I’m in the mood for oranges sometimes I’m in the mood for grapefruit. Sometimes I don’t care but it’d be nice to have an option to filter out grapefruit if I want oranges as a personal preference. Otherwise I have to go through all oranges trying to find a grapefruit. If someone doesn’t like this filter they don’t have to use it.

18. Sound when sending message

When sending a message, there's a sound that you can't turn off. If I'm trying to use the app discretely, I don't want my phone to make a sound when I send someone a message. There needs to be a simple way to simply turn off this sent message sound. I can control the sound the app makes when receiving a message, but not the sent message sound. That should change.
