I actually support Grindr widening the umbrella, but most of the “females” are bot accounts and we get huge numbers of trans men and straight men who are trans chasers. If Match.com threw all users in a room and said “here’s your grid” it would be useless for hetros. But here we are with Grindr, where cis gay men should obviously be attracted to trans men and women, and cis straight men don’t seem to have any issues noting they only want trans. The solution is simple, like other dating sites: free filters that limit your grid to matching demographics on both sides: “I’m a cis gay man looking for cis gay men”. “I’m a cis bi man looking for gay cis men and trans women”. “I’m a trans man looking for a trans man”.
Easy logical filter that every other app which encourages multiple genders already has, but Grindr would rather enshitify the app and throw everyone in a room full of bots and gender mismatches and claim to provide a premium experience.

Agreed. They widened the user base but made it more difficult to find matches. I’m X looking for Y should be core functionality when multiple genders are involved.
