Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

There are so many men here who bash me as tho this isn’t an app for gays like it’s a boys toilet room. If I’m not your type reporting my page doesn’t make me go away. Im a female with an advanced sexual appetite and Men on Grindr tend to like that. Also I’m a SWITCH… however men find I have only one type and I don’t go outside my preference.

@Travis: Thank you! The clutch is real and we need to stop leaning on it
That being said: we are all wasting our time on this. Grindr is not reading, paying attention, or caring about their paying customer base. They continuously remove filters along the way (health status disappeared a while back, too). They need to either keep/replace all the filters, or remove them all. No matter what, I am going to be too tall to short, too big or little, light or dark, etc. to SOMEONE. Does it bother me? No. I would rather someone not “have to look at me” than having it lead to disappointment or, recently, rude queens telling me what is wrong with me.

The filter has Nothing to do with racism. We cannot change or alter who we attracted to that’s biological and would be ridiculous to attempt to do so.
The Gays cannot shout from the rooftops that they are “born this way” And then claim that attraction is something that is decided consciously . Either it’s all biological or it’s not . And just because someone is pissed off and pouting because they we’re not picked by someone else does not mean this racism … just means that that person didn’t like them in that way …that’s life …get over it … grow up and stop using racism as a blanket. -

This is outrageous. People are so scared nowadays to come across as racist. Everyone is beautiful, but everyone also has a type. Why is this not an option anymore?

Grindr should be race-conscious and celebrate ethnicity, not censor it. People should also have personal choice to find other affinity groups or individuals whether it's for friendships, or what not. It's not always about sex. Perhaps people speak the same language, or have similar heritage. Why make it harder for people to find brothers and sisters of similar origin. If you really wanna equalize race, just take pictures out completely. I'm sure everyone would love that. It also won't solve racism unfortunately.

In my opinion, filter or not it will never remove someone's specific "preferences" it only makes them harder to find and filter through. Trust me. Someone who has a "preference" for specific type of man won't change because a feature is gone and it's stupid to think that in this day in age.

to A Splendid Time ..thank u for ur thoughtful comments.
I have tried sleeping with females on occasion with an open mind. it never worked tho. I also stick to my preferences most of the time. I can only speak from experience that when I've gone beyond my first preference for Caucasian blondes I was very happy that I branched out. I apologize for calling anyone stupid but I also can't assume grindr is pandering to the woke mob. they may feel genuinely about how it can hurt some people and maybe they decided it wasn't that vital since we usually find out about someones race with pics. sexual attraction is very personal. no one is stupid 4 not branching out more but they may not realize until they try that other types might satisfy them. yes u may know what turns you on but there is an old saying that some people are looking for their knight in shining armor and miss out because they only want that ideal person. many people give up on grindr because it can be frustrating and it can be frustrating because it can be superficial and there is an element of superficiality to rejecting whole groups of people based on race or ethnicity. for some grindr can become very depressing because of rejection. of course rejection is part of life but rejection based primarily on race does seem a bit superficial to me. I wish everyone the best and I'm glad I decided not to reject anyone based on ethnicity long ago because I gained a lot from going beyond the knight in shining armor although if he's out there I am hoping he doesn't block me based on my race! -

p look, I understand what you're saying. I agree that using a filter doesn't make you racist. But I don't think it makes you stupid. While I don't think there's anything wrong with helping to broaden people's tastes, I believe that ultimately we all decide on what turns us on. I personally can enjoy men from different ethnic backgrounds, but my 'type' does not directly involve ethnicity. Some people feel differently and don't want to be presented with a lot of guys that they are not attracted to. You've read the arguments for this request. One could argue that 'being open minded to intimacy' should include women as well. Many of us are bi. I'm sure you're not making this argument. But I hope you see my point that we all have a desire for what gets us going sexually and a service that claims to facilitate finding compatible partners should not be pandering to the 'woke' mob to the displeasure of their own customers.

When gays exclude other races by using a filter, that doesn't make them racist, it makes them closed minded. Why miss out on meeting someone because of race, why not try something new? I started off aiming for one race and now I've become attracted to all races through experience.
For those who admit they exclude some ethnicities, give a different race a try. Maybe it's a good thing there is no ethic filter in an effort to broaden people's tastes.
I admit I used the filter for specific searches because where I live there are few Asians so it would help me locate some faster. I'm white and I started off wanting blond white boys. I've changed. I am attracted to any race now. I love having more to chose from. Regularly excluding other races is not a preference, it's closed minded. My message to those who always exclude some ethnicities, it's your loss. Open up a little. My message to Grindr is don't put that filter back. There are not only racists out there but it can cause pain for vulnerable folks who do feel rejected for their race. There is no perfect answer because people will still look for only one race. I repeat, that doesn't make you racist. I think it makes you stupid. Being open minded to intimacy with more races means you are smart enough to enjoy different skin colors and body features. Gays should lead that cultural trend instead of being a carbon copy of the boring and often racist straight world. Aren't we better than that?
Aren't we more open than that? -

. Seeking what you like what turns you on what your desires and your ideal partner is . This doesn't make you racist I don't date black people I don't date older type or younger than 30 I don't date Asian Mexican people Latino people however in my friends list people all backgrounds and all types are included. I said don't talk to me because you're black that makes me prejudice if I said I won't date you because you're black or some other characteristics that doesn't make me prejudice it makes me selective. .. Dating is a form of individual choice and selfish in nature. Where we choose what we like . who want to be with what we don't want to be with we're selective and selfish a choice based upon personal not public or politically correct and it's a right to be selective in dating process does it make a racist bigot homophobic no . It's just a person with individual likes and dislikes based upon individuality. A personal choice it's neither wrong nor right but a personal choice made strictly upon a personal level based upon personal likes or values or moral cannot. be argued. A personal choice is a choice made upon individuality and no one can argue it to be wrong or right . Don't confuse Self Indulgence and the right to be selective and hatefulness in fact we all have boundaries that does not make us prejudiced or a bigotry or hateful I'm a transgender mtf individual that has spent many years as a therapist also. A advocate for individuality. human rights LGBTQ rights transgender rights and acceptance. I

yeah, honestly?
removing the ethnicity filter was nothing but an empty, performative platitude grindr enacted to quiet down some squeaky wheels
nothing meaningful was accomplished by doing this
i also would not be shocked if grindr didn't view this "politically correct" move as nothing but an opportunity for a potential money grab, one that makes it more annoying for folks to find what they want (or exclude what they believe they don't want)
we all know the racists, the close-minded, and the bigots are going to stay racist, bigoted, close-minded, and/or prejudiced — nothing has changed just because their ability to directly sort according to their biases, however short-sighted, has been taken away by the platform they happen to be on
i'm of the opinion: good riddance
i don't want colour-excluding assholes clogging up *my* grid — irregarding whatever reason the asshole excludes by colour
so, grindr?
bring it back
go ahead and bring that ethnicity filter backfind yourself another battle to fight
fight *this* battle in another way
unless, of course, you actually don't care about the marginalized/ostracized — only the dollars that you would lose if that function of your app is restored (for free)...
...which, from what i've observed, actually is a "modus operandi" that is well within 'brand' for your companyP.S. — i'm a black man who does NOT engage in making categorical ethnicity-based exclusions
i'm also a black man who recognizes EVERYONE can be a remarkably-foul piece of shit, irrespective the colouring of their skinthat said, i will leave off with these two points here:
1.) colour exclusionists? ask yourself WHY you exclude all members of a given ethnicity
2.) we've been fighting this war for centuries now, and might well continue fighting it for centuries more
i do have one fun factoid/reminder: back during the time of sanctioned black enslavement, some white enslavers DID, very much, have no problems seeking us out for their sexual gratification
they evidently weren't repulsed by the idea of becoming intimately-acquainted with our ebony black flesh, eh?actually, now that i think about about...
...this is also true of the colonizers from western europe — the "latin" ones who invaded / pillaged the indigenous of south and north america for many generationsis it not?
those white parasites couldn't help themselves from schtupping all those golden brown natives (natives who, originally, were-all minding their own business...not even aware of the impending White Doom) either
those colonizers didn't turn *their* noses up at the idea of commingling with "lesser" coloured people, now did they?

@kevin leach: you make a good point.
whether grindr has the ethnicity filter or not doesn't change the preferences of its users, who are still going to not chat to, or block, people of certain ethnicities.
And this could be worse for people of those ethnicities -- with a filter, they won't get viewed at all. but without a filter, they'll get viewed, get excited and look at who viewed them, only to then seconds or minutes later see that person has disappeared from the view list i.e., has blocked them.
I would argue that having the ethnicity filter is actually kinder and less offensive than not having it.

Just stop. You know Grindr is not going to add more filters. It would mean less money for them because you are no longer wasting time sifting through non-matching profiles. They will just keep adding more options to the useless tribes and tags feature to make all the simpletons happy.
