Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

İ use the app once in month r rarely than, that’s why don’t pay to be a gold user r what’s named that, then means I have to see just a small number of users where are Asians ( guys I love you I have good friends but not on my sexual fantasies), femboys, trans etc, and remain just 10% of guys which I can communicate with. Is that fear?

@Alex Williams That's completely within people's rights. Some aren't going to like Asians, some aren't going to like Americans, and so on. Whether the filter exists or not isn't going to suddenly make everyone like "Oh my god, suddenly I like all men!" Without the filter you'll just get more people saying they aren't attracted to your ethnicity.
The hilarious thing here too is how people act like it ONLY happens to blacks, asians, etc. I've gotten plenty of people, as a white male, that say they're not into white people. Some are white, some are black, some are asian, etc. The thing I don't get is why you'd be offended by someone not being attracted to you or think that's somehow racist. That'd be like saying we're all sexist for being gay.

If they're not into Asians, then their not into Asians. Respect what people like and their preferences.

Then report them to Grindr, block, and move on with your life! A filter (or lack of) is not going to stop asshole behavior. -

I was just told “not into Asians.” Filtering should go both ways.

Mixed black guy here. I used the ethnicity filter all the time when it was available because my SEXUAL mood changed on a daily basis. Some days I wanted Latino, other days Arab, blah blah blah. How does that harm anyone? Does that make me racist? I wasn't openly telling people or posting on my profile that I'm not into their ethnicity. THAT'S where the discrimation problem truly starts and ends on this app and is what Grindr should really be focusing on. Taking away the filter just clutters the grid and is not going to change anyone's preferences. Besides, everyone had the option of not using the filter if it bothered them that much. Too many of you forget that Grindr is a for-profit business first and foremost, not a "pillar of our community" or any other virtuous PR nonsense.

@Alfred Phifer,
GRINDR is a dating app, not a platform for promotion of culture, fashion or trends. And while dating one must have a free choice who he wants to go out with. Therefore his preferences are very individual and feeling more attracted towards taller than shorter, or older than younger or - finally - black than white is natural. And as much as entering a room can be one-time action, because we shall never go back to it and choose next time a different room (bar, club, etc.), it is not possible with GRINDR which is the only one big room and pretty crowded one. So in order not to feel uncomfortable and to be efficient, one must be equipped with proper filters, including ethicity one.
Finally, if the filter is there and one doesn't want to use it, nobody forces anyone to do so. But let leave FREE CHOICE TO EVERYONE and create proper reporting tools and draw general guidelines stating clearly what behaviors on GRINDR would be qualified as racial and which other as simple human preference, like for food, type of holidays or movies genre.
PLEASE BRING THE ETHNICITY FILTER BACK!

My bad, I was thinking this topic was about something else intirely. My main issue is with ethnicity being a option in profile settings as though ethnicity is a characteristics or physical appearance. I did not know that you could filter search results by ethnicity. That is horrible to me. There is no excuse for such a thing...discriminatory convenience?! Can you walk into a room and just remove any ethnicity you disappove of as suitable for your interests? No. Grindr,( any dating app) in my view should be treated the same way for the betterment of the community. It my be convenient but it's also a discriminatory factor based in racism that shouldn't be downplayed. The Asain guy saying that looking for other Asians to hangout with, inhaveca question..are you that bothered by seeing other profiles? I'm sorry but who spoiled are we nowadays? I respect his view; however,it's still not useful to the overall good of the community. I think too many fail to recognize, Grindr is a community with gay culture. The way we conduct ourselves and most importantly the manner in which the platform engages to set boundaries that limit or remove anything that gives way to discrimination and futher deteratition of the communityas a whole ,should evolve into beung more inclusive and tolerant.

@Alfred Phifer: your comments are good, but this is GRINDR, and the vast majority of guys that use it are there to find a fuck, not a date. And sexual attraction isn't racist, just like someone not wanting to fuck a 90yo or an 18yo is ageist, or not wanting to fuck a double amputee is discrimination against less able bodied people, or not wanting to fuck a transman is transphobic. Bring back the filter and let Grindr uses find their fucks faster.

@Hhggg I believe anyone person stating that there are looking for or only into there own ethic group isn't the same as ." Not into Asian, whites, or blacks" or whatever. I don't agree with those types of statements in a profile;however, as I explained to close friends of a different ethnicity...anybody that solely and exclusive dates only within is different discussion then a person disqualifying certain groups as suitable based on ethnicity. " not into certain ethnicities" vs "only into my ethnicity" isn't
the issue being discussed but it's apart of the bigger picture. I wish the option was removed from the profile settings as a characteristics or way of describing one's self. That is my issue..but I do believe it is a could call for an app that has paid subscribers of all walks of life, to remove that filter or discriminatory convenience. If a person isn't interested in someone who shows interest, for whatever reason simply don't reply. -

I find it interesting that anyone would claim having the ethnicity filter necessary. Especially as a minor. Just look at a picture, that tells you all you need to know about the person's ethnicity, generally. Why does it even matter or what purpose would an ethnicity filter have in a " dating" app? I don't see the importance or relevance at all. Other then a discriminatory factor.
Don't bring back the ethnicity filter. This has been an issue for me since day one. If we ever aim cultivate a community of understanding and a truly inclusive community, ethnicity, race, and anything else that doesn't reflect character or physical appears, allows racial rooted discrimination within the community. I date need a flirter to tell me what a profile picture or the profile text can. I vote No -

Well written! Indeed, we should put it to the test!Deleting the filter was a very bad idea and it's been already almost 2 years I have been fighting for its return.
Please GRINDR, look at this discussion and see that it is the most popular one and vast majority supports return of the ethnicity filter. Time to make it happen, please!

@Michael Gray: what about if we allow the ethnicity filter to be used by black men on Grindr, so they can filter only for the types they are attracted to. For example, I often see black men on Grindr who in their profile text are very direct and say "black guys only". Would it be ok for black men to have use of the filter? Is a black man saying "black guys only" racist do you think?

Please finally listen to the wisdom of those men. Please bring back the ethnicity filter. SCRUFF, JACK’D and other applications use it and among their users are also YOUR GRINDR users. Many of them who allegedly oppose the filter here. You will not lose customers, but gain!

I’m so tired of people saying that you’re filtering out a whole group of people just because you want to find those who you are actually attracted to. You could turn the filter on and then you can turn the filter off depending on your mood. Because at the moment I’m not filtering people out im actually blocking them permanently.. because of the lack of a filter …so which is worse? Blocking someone forever that you’ll never see again or just going through a filter and seeing who is out there at any given moment? Please stop being ridiculously and overly “woke”. Bring the filter back it’ just makes more sense for you customers.

Having the filter isn't a bad thing it allows ppl to find what they find attractive to them friends are one thing but a sexual attraction is another also with the filter it will only show what you want to see so you don't gotta keep blocking ppl just to see ppl you are attracted too and want to consider being in bed with I'm attracted to white Mex blk and Arab guys or mixed those would be my filters and if the admin does make this filter I'm hoping they will also do the hold profile pic mass block to make room for ppl it's bad enough with the distance filter screwing up or not working at all
