Even if there are a few people or many people out there who are prejudicial, do you think that because you are forced to show up on their screen, that they will date you? Just like homosexuals are not attracted to females, not everyone is attracted to every other race. It is not always a racist reason, it's more of the same thing as not being attracted to your grandmother.
There are people who are attracted to very old men or young men, fat or skinny, dark or light skinned, etc. We don't control who we are attracted to (age, race, height, weight, etc.) anymore then we control being heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual.
We need the filter so we can find guys who may be "the one" without going through guys who 100% definitely are not "the one".

@john dough: It’s the same for me. I live in one of the largest and most affluent black counties in the US. I’m white. I moved here on purpose (too many white people make me nervous lol). I’m constantly being told that I am “obviously racist” from folks that have never talked to or met me. I was married (twice) to an AA woman (same woman, longer story) and have three beautiful mixed race children (they are all adults now). I’m constantly met with profiles from AA men that literally say “BLACK MEN ONLY” or “BROTHERS ONLY” or “NO WHITE MEN” — but *I* am the racist? Racism DOES go both ways. I agree! As a black person , that ethnicity filter gives me a better experience when I wanna hookup. I generally am open to all races but many white gays in America are horribly racist. Now since hate speech is closely monitored in profiles the new tactic is to just ignore you like you don’t exist. They take up tons of space and is the worst cock block . 1. It is not racist to prefer an ethnicity. (If it were, all homosexuals are also misogynists.) 2. Even if it were, people have other reasons for the filter. For example, an expat/tourist in a foreign country, who isn't there for the sex trade. Unpreferred POCs are not going to get more attention on the app bc of this modification. People just block them. Some POCs (see 2) in foreign countries would also like to speak only to people who know their language. I've been rejected by a Chinese guy because of this, and it is understandable. If I were paying GrindR for "premium" service, I know I would want to option to unclog my grid of those individuals whom I never will be attracted to—I am turned on by male / masculine features, which can include the transmen who completely commit to being men—and from those who never will be attracted to me, as I am not a girly boy.
