Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

This is never going to change. Thousands and thousands of comments here and everywhere in these forums and nothing gets done or changes. Grindr is so busy policing gender and race, I found a guy I know who is poz, profile says neg he’s looking to swap loads. Reported him twice and nothing done. Everyone concerned about vaccines. I’m very turned off and disillusioned by grindr.

@Eventide & @JC. Stop being defensive. Stop taking this personally. Stop invalidating my experience. I'm merely expressing my personal experience at online dating. Regardless, the most important goal for all of us is that we want the race filter feature back for various reasons. Let's all focus on that pain point. There is no need to attack any individuals here. Thx

@anonymous(self identifying Asian dude), Your ignorance is astounding! To equate the grindr filter to discrimination and racism detracts from the experience of actual victims.
Maybe we should all go on blind dates. Now there's an idea for an app.
I agree with @eventide --nicely put, and I don't feel the need to labor this further; after all, a degree of rational though is necessary for such a discussion, and yet apparently in short supply.
I will say though, @anonymous, you seem remarkably unaware of your own bias and prejudice.
Speaking of hypocrisy; Grindr establishment !! we cannot hear you!!! ??? Or are you content to pit mano a mano.
You lurk ever so cowardly in the shadows, lacking in moral fortitude (and cojones) to step forward, and either defend your position or acknowledge the err of your ways.
Do You Have The Courage? I think not. Yet I remain hopeful !!

Come on folks, we’re talking about Grindr here. Grindr, a fucked up pos app that we choose to use to find male companionship or maybe a quick release. Unfortunately, most men of like mind, also use Grindr. I would use an alternative app if it existed! I stopped paying for this pos app and recommend everyone stop paying.

@Anonymous You say this as if only gay men discriminate because we have a preference. You also act like this preference is ONLY from a place of racism. None of this is true whatsoever. That'd be like saying you weren't born gay, it was just a product of your environment. Which again would make no sense with gay people that were around when it was pretty much a death sentence.
Your sexual preference is an amalgamation of many different variables. There's DNA, environment, previous history, and so on. We already know that there's predispositions as well and we're not sure where they come from exactly. Just because you're predisposed to liking a certain race sexually more than others doesn't mean you're racist. There's people that are not attracted to overweight people whatsoever, does that make them a "fat shamer?" There's people that are attracted to only their age or younger, does that make them ageist? As a gay man, are you sexist because you don't get attracted to women?
If you say yes to any of those questions, you have issues you need to work through, not everyone else. There's nothing negative happening here in any instance. I'm not attracted to a fat person, but I can still communicate with them, be friends with them, etc. I'm not attracted to women, but I can still be friends with them. If I was a racist I'd have to hate other races. If I was sexist I'd have to hate a gender. Neither of these things applies to just sexual preference.
If you would say they do apply, then you must be a sexist pig because you're a gay man. How dare you not like women too!
It makes no sense, does it?
Also, it's interesting that you say you've never felt bad about yourself until it was other gay men that did it. So apparently you're not affected by other people being racist, but when a gay man is racist suddenly it's a different story? That shows more issue with you than anything. You also mention your skin color and that's not what's the topic here. I never really see anyone's skin color, that doesn't matter to me, but there are other Asian aspects like the eyes shape, eyelids, their hair type, etc. Each race has many different aspects than just skin color, and it's people like you that generalize it all into just skin color that create issues where there aren't any. You see "racist" as just skin color.. which is racist itself since you're not seeing the races for everything they are.
In the end, it's you, and people like you, that are the problem. You create an issue and act like it's suddenly "racist" because you know by throwing that card around you get attention lately. Whether you like it or not, people will always have predispositions to other people. Haven't you ever met someone that you just already know you won't like? You know you have and it could have been any combination of things you don't like.

Gay men should own up to the fact that most of you discriminate. That may sound counterintuitive since most would think we are accepting of others due to our struggles. I find the opposite is true.
We have internalized that white attributes are attractive because we've grown up saturated in that message. So when you say that race is a "preference," stop and think from where that preference is coming? There are many types (weight, height, age, build, sexuality, etc.) within each race group. That's why I'd distinguish those "preferences" in separate categories.
As an Asian gay man, I have never felt shitty about myself until I experienced discrimination from other gay men. I appreciate Grindr's efforts to curb the rampant racism on their app by taking down the race filter to be more inclusive. However, that causes another friction. I don't want to deal with those who aren't interested in me due to my race. By allowing these ignorant bigots to filter me out in their search, I can save time and connect with those who see me beyond my skin color. Quite frankly, I'm open to all races so the race filter isn't a requirement, but I don't want to waste time scrolling through the racist bigots.
I welcome any constructive comments. Thanks!

You can just ignore that filter if you think it is racism. But you should deprive others choice.

The guy says it is a preference lol. You don't have preference? Then why don't you go for girls? It is about interpretation. Everything could be racism or sexism , it is only based on how you interpret.

@Anyonymous "Sorry, but gay men that think it’s okay to treat others differently based on their race" You literally are trying to force everyone into your view. Forcing everyone to have to abide by what you think is right. You have no right to talk about treating others. Anyone that thinks differently than you is suddenly wrong and horrible. Somehow a filter is "racist" to you.. that really just shows how racist you truly are. Nobody here is treating anyone differently aside from you.
Using black guys as an example here:
With the filter: I don't see any black guys
Without the filter: I see black guys and just ignore them or block them. What's the difference here? What changed at all with or without the filter? The only difference is with the filter it's easier for me to find what I actually know I want. How is it racist? That I have an attraction that's different than yours?
You're making this into such a massive problem that isn't even a problem. You're forcing everyone to try and think how you think then acting like people treat others horribly.. You're the one treating people horribly.

@JC It's hilarious isn't it? All the people that try to act like the race filter is suddenly racism, but the other filters are perfectly fine. It's all the "woke" people and "SJW" people that see "problems" everywhere they go. Problems that don't exist, but they get enough idiots believing it and turn it into a problem. They act like it's all in a fight for "equality", "social justice", etc but literally all it has been doing is giving more and more people massive social anxiety. Everything you say nowadays is wrong. Everything you say is harshly judged by every single person.
It's hilarious too that they only think the **filter** is what makes it racist. If you didn't use a filter and still are a white guy with an asian guy though, that's fine. But for some reason if you're a white guy with an asian guy you met using an asian filter somehow you're racist. There's literally no difference here aside from I don't see what I know I'm not attracted to.
There have been some trying to argue as well that like if you go to a bar you can't filter out the people.. yes you can, you just completely ignore them. If I don't feel attracted to someone because of their race, I just won't even notice them. That's not racist, that's attraction. Racist would be me going "HOW DARE THAT ASIAN COME INTO THIS BAR!"
"Equality" apparently nowadays means you're not allowed to have a choice to do what you want or like what you want. You have to abide by what someone else finds right. Like how we're all forced to abide by this "no ethnicity filter" purely because a handful of idiots think it's "racist" yet the vast majority see no problem with it. And that handful of people could just not utilize it if they don't like it.. instead they force their view upon everyone else and shout "EQUALITY!"

As a black man, this would mean I am a racist if I dl Asian porn?! Really! Google is one big 'filter engine'; is this racist?!
How insulting, to anyone who lived through Jim crow era! Such ignorance spews from the post modernist, Neo-Marxist agenda, and is perpetuated by the gullible left. They see racism everywhere!
With this logic, we shouldn't have a weight filter because that would be fat shaming ; or an age filter because that would be ageist. Or a sexual preference filter because.....well who knows. Heck, why not also get rid of photos. Better still, I vote to scrap this app, for it is inherently prejudicial.
Preference and choice are part of human nature -- get over it! It's what makes us unique and curious and desirable. Or should we cancel this too.
The hypocrisy of these people is nauseating and predictable!

@Bill, so that’s 5000 racists that want the filter back among how many million users worldwide?
Sorry, but gay men that think it’s okay to treat others differently based on their race are hypocrites if they ask for equal rights from straight society.
Jim Crow era is dead! Let’s not revive it. -

I have been against this decision ever since they made it. It was done at a time when everyone was jumping on the anti-racism bandwagon.
The problem isn't the people searching for a specific race through the filters. People like what they like, whether it's a specific age, wt, ht, or yes, race.
This decision should not have been made unilaterally by Grindr. People who feel the ethnicity filter was racist could easily have opted out on their end by not listing their ethnicity on their OWN profile. That way their profile would not be shown to guys using an ethnicity filter. Don't want to be searched by a specific trait? Then don't list it on your profile and it can't be used to show your profile when someone searches using that filter.
As the complaints about this Grindr decision gets closer to 5,000 without a reversal or even a comment or statement, it is indicative that they don't want to admit they made a hasty & wrong decision based on what was happening at the moment. The fact that they removed the ethnicity filter does not make them high and mighty supporters of anti-racism anymore than using the filter makes people a racist.
Your paying customers want the filter back. It's time you should make that happen.

Gracias!!!

Removal of ethnicity filter discriminates against my personal sexual preference. If you remove the ethnicity filter based on percrieved discrimination (this is after all Grindr and not the bloody Times Magazine); stop ridiing the political and woke band wagon and brown nosing to said political pressure. If you want to truely take a stand against discrimination then remove ALL the filters as they too are discriminatory. Discrimination doesnt only apply to race. Your removal of the filter has discriminated against my preference and my freedom of choice. So grow a backbone, drop the political insanity and either reinstate the filter or remove all filters.
