Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

They should bring it back we all have a preference I'm black and it does not offend me one bit all other apps and sites have the option a4a has it scruff has it it's in no way being racist people are taking it to far it's just the same as if someone had in their profile that they only want to talk to hairy guys or fem trans and so on a lot of people on Grindr can't handle being told I'm not interested by someone and it's a shame because everybody that use the app is an adult hell I've been told I'm too tall too big too old and none of that bothers me

Grindr has been nothing else but a rip off ever since they removed the ethnicity filter. They have the extra option , platinum option or whatever it’s name for sky price but you can’t filter a simple thing which is ethnicity. I never payed a penny for it’s subscription since they removed the filter as it has been the only useful filter apart from the positions filter. Where is our freedom of choice to either go for the opposite ethnicity or the same as our own & have the option to narrow down hundreds and thousands of people to our preference not to be going trough 100s of profiles till we find one who we like or would like to vibe with. Even for normal friendly socialising it is important for us to be able to connect with opposed ethnicities and/or our own by our own choice at the time. BRING BACK THE FILTERS OR DROP YOUR PRICE TO €£$0.00

Yes I agree. I am south Asian, I like other south Asian men and would like the filter back too, it’s much easier to find rather than asking the person if their white asian black etc... it’s not nice, we all have our own own preferences I guess!

why not just restore it. Where was the outcry for years when it was part of the app. Created a problem that did not exist

Exactly. Stupid to remove it. If people have a preference, it allows them to focus on that. I would rather that than be message "hey, you white? asian? black" or whatever. We should all be attracted to everyone is SIMPLY NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS.
This was a lazy way for Grind to say it was doing something about bullying. How about just perma0banning bullies and racists?

I wud like to filter my profiles based on ethnicity again . It was removed for being deemed as promoting discrimination but yet we can still filter by age weight tribes and sexual positions, to my understanding each of those filters equally promote the discrimination of one type of sub community or another, such as weight and age shaming, even sexual position shaming (yes thats a thing too). So why are we free to shame and discriminate in some ways but not others? Should it be that “whats good for the goose should be good for the gander”?

The ethnicity filter can be back with a small change so you can stop people from filtering out people of color.
It has been impossible for me, as a person of color, to find other people of color. I am an Asian man who are interested in black men and i live in a predominantly white area. It’s been impossible.
The whole reason why the filter was bad was people filtering out people of color. So small tweaks can restore it and still make it not racist:
-You can make the ethnicity filter temporary by one search. So you can’t keep on seeing just your race preference. Users will have to select each time if they want to find by a certain race. Then reset it next time they go back to main profile.
- or make “Asian” or “black” or “latino” a tribe and ignore the race filter all together.Hope it helps

If you take away Ethnic filter why allow race in a profile? If filtering out an Ethnic group in your search is considered racist then why include race in profile questions? People are still going to block those of an Ethnic group they are not sexually attracted to. Doing away with the filter doesn't solve anything.

I agree. We are paying for the option. I also do not understand why there are people on there searching for trans women, when it’s a gay hook up app.

Its like removing the age filter because it’s ageist.
This has gone too far, how on earth appreciating men of colour is being racist. If some people are being racist deal with them but not on by removing filters . I find it offensive you have removed that being of colour.

I personally want the ethnicity filter restored.
The real issue for Grindr is liability…. And to a lesser extent, the safety of the users and lgbtq community: people are targeted by bigots, racists, and psychopaths (which includes governments). LGBTQ people across the ethnic spectrum, across the globe are being assaulted and murdered, en masse.
The ethnicity filter only helps one segment of that coalition, the racists.
I feel like the bigger question is: if Grindr could do more to prevent this violence and also actively seek justice in cases where someone is harmed, WHY DON’T THEY?

It’s a waste of time and my money to pay for a service, like Grindr, that takes away my options…. It’s one thing to have never had this filter, now you’re implying your Woke BS on me. It doesn’t make for a happy customer

I'm mixed about the ethnicity filter being gone. On one hand, I can't seek out other people who I have ethnic and cultural similarities with, but on the other hand, not only do I deal with the overt "it's just a preference" discrimination in which men are disgusted by my existence for reasons I, thankfully, can't relate to (and I'm more than okay with racists not wanting to interact with me), but what bugs me are the racists that purposely DO seek out certain minorities because they want to get off on their weird, racial fetishes & fantasies. Gay porn, and even apps, has fed a lot of people the idea that seeking out and using black guys solely to fulfill their fantasies is fine. So for me, it's always "i want bbc" this and "i want bbc" that. Personally, it drives me up the wall because I can't avoid men who love to stereotype me and others like myself. it's made my experience on grindr a living hell for the most part. Of course, men still do it but it's been happening less, compared to when people could just filter us in before. So that's just a little insight on what that's like for me. So, as long as i get to avoid interactions like that, I'm okay with it being removed.
And I would also like to enlighten people, especially gay asian men, that recent studies show that majority of asian men are actually the most discriminative on gay dating apps (you can literally google it and find certified, properly referenced studies). They do it more than white men, in fact—especially towards their own race and black men. They mainly respond to/seek out white men despite facing heavy prejudice and sexual racism themselves. So, personally, i feel like asian men shouldn't really complain about it because the algorithm shows that they utilize it and weaponize it more than any other race. I know, not all asian men are like that, but a great deal of them are and i feel like it only causes and echo chamber for them. I'm sure grindr has these algorithms, hence why they removed it in the first place, so I doubt they'll put it back just because an asian "minority" said they want to use it.
Lastly, I just wanna address some comments and say that when gay men make comparisons about racial preferences and sexual orientation, your failing to realize that there's people of multiple races that are both straight and gay. Firstly, if you don't think racial discrimination is racism, then at least admit its certainly racially charged. hence the root of the word race? rac/e/ial/ism? Who you choose to be or not to be attracted to is a choice. So when you bring sexuality into it, you're essentially saying that being gay or straight is a choice and that people aren't born straight or gay. So the next time you hear a bigot say "being gay is a choice" just remember that they're essentially quoting you (:

I suggest just go to Adam4Adam. They get that attraction is inherent and nothing about it is discriminatory. Lots of free choices too!
