Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

Jojo, I think your estimation that "90% of the time ...white men (are) trying to find only other white men." is not taking into account those of us white men who enjoy the company of men of color and would like finding them to be easier.

I'm Black and bi. I actually left Grindr because they removed the ethnicity preferences. I have no ethnic preference when it comes to women but, a very specific preference when dealing with men. If a guy is "not into black guys" then, he doesn't have to be. That is his prerogative. How is that racist or offensive? Even still, some people are into raceplay.

Something I fully don't understand are the amount of people saying things like
"Having the ethnicity filter helps those of us who are not white find each other but let's be honest, it was probably used 90% of the time by white men trying to find only other white men."
This line is saying it helped races find each other, but then immediately turns around and becomes racist.
Why is it people are allowed now to just bash "white men" and we're supposed to accept it? But then if we talk about wanting a race filter for whatever reason, people say it's good for "non-whites" but if white people use it suddenly it's racist??
It's like people are allowed to bash white men now and that's not racist, but anything white men do is racist or scrutinized.. which is literally racism.
As was said by Ken recently, racism is preventing people from doing things based on their race, making things harder/easier based on race, etc. Removing the ethnicity filter literally did both of these things. It wasn't racist to have it or remove it. What is racist is the issues that arise from not having it. I'm a white man that's not sexually attracted to other white men typically.. I really like asian men. That doesn't make me racist, it's just my sexual preference.

I feel like Grindr shouldn't have had the ethnicity filter to begin with.

You allow us to search by type, which is a label and also a means to limit results. I.e. for tribes, I can search out all trans but I cannot search for my sexual match / ethnic type of middle eastern. I'm not finding the logic. I can search by body type and leave out ones that I am not interested in but I cannot search ethnicities. Please restore. There are plenty of requests here to support. You are still allowing selective discrimination by continuing the ability to search by certain criteria.

Racism is using your power to exclude certain races from achieving a successful livelihood: red lining neighbourhoods to keep a race outside of the line, only mortgaging to a certain race, purposely giving a certain race less/more challenging work. Wanting to engage in sex with a specific race isn’t racism…its a preference. Preferences are sacred and no one has to tell you whether they prefer you or not, hence the ethnicity filter.

I just joined Grindr. I live in a Black majority neighbourhood but I prefer white guys, however it's tedious and often unsuccessful scrolling through all the black guys in the nearby tab.. It's not racist to have a preference! If so then it must be "ageist" to filter by age as well.. Ridiculous! Bring back ethnicity filter!

Please reinstate the ethnicity filter.
And also create a new filter so I can filter out people who are "offended" by the ethnicity filter. Those people are clearly sad pathetic people who need help. Hell, they probably get offended by anything and everything. They need to be ignored.

Let’s stop trying to be so politically correct all the time. We are not talking about a hiring process for a corporate job. This is about our sex lives and sexual partners. Not only is there nothing illegal about being racist in our sex lives, I think it is perfectly normal behavior. If I am not sexually attracted to subset of the human population, that is my business. Racism is only illegal in housing and job application, and since this app is not designed to facilitate either one of those activities, filtering by ethnicity only enriches the functionality of the app.

I think to tackle this issue in modern day.
Grinder should bring the option back but automatically reset the filter to default every time the app is launched to encourage people to not screen by race among other filters of course.I am also Asian and on some days I am looking for people to hang out with with my cultural background and on some days I want to hang out with adventurous people from different background- or course the filter helps and I read their Bio then decide. Now I just cant do anything.
This race problem actually is not as simple as removing race filter, Grindr. If you remove race why do you accept age or role or tribes filter? are those discrimination? what about location or gender? why allow a filter for those? You can see how outrageous it is to think racism is simply a race filter - it is not. By removing this filter, Grindr as a company is actually showing lack of understanding to discrimination.

It’s so unfortunate that with this level of outcry Grindr still cares about being politically correct than they do about serving their PAYING MEMBERS! The flip side of this whole being “stereotypical” argument is that some men want to find guys in their own ethnicity group. What is wrong with that? It’s also ironic by forcing us to view guys we personally don’t want to, now I’m BLOCKING THEM! Imagine how hurt a guy will feel when before they were just not being reached out to, but now they reach out to a guy, and all the sudden gets blocked!
Removing this filter isn’t all the sudden going to make us be more compatible with that certain ethnicity.
Why do gays always have to go through this kind of stuff. Nothing is ever made easy for us! There is always some burden we are subjected to. I really wonder if life will ever be easy for me.

I purchased Grindr extra to use the ethnicity filter. The intention is not to racially profile but to search by preference. If I’m interested in Middle Eastern men for example, I want to be able to see them. Once my subscription to Grindr extra ends I am not going to renew it. All Grindr is interested in is making money and not working for the LGBT community.

Why can we not sort against race? All other races will ask you the same thing in South Afirca. It is a common problem, nothing racial.

This feature request has over 5k votes, shouldn’t that be sufficient to reinstate the ethnicity filter? 🤦🏻♂️

Everyone has preferences. The same argument can be made about Grindr being sexist against women. It’s stupid. I prefer people of my own ethnicity and having to block everyone that isn’t my type is annoying and time consuming. I don’t understand what’s racist about a preference. People like what they like and it will always be that way. It’s not racist to go for a certain kind of person. I think taking away the filter has done far more bad than good, and I think it was a very ignorant decision to do it in the first place. I have nothing against people of other ethnic backgrounds. I do not believe anyone is inferior to my own. That doesn’t mean I’m attracted to them. Have a good day.

Imagine ordering on UBER EATS and not being able to select which type of cuisine you wanted? MADNESS would never happen, Uber as a business is not stupid they understand that some of there customers may want Chinese the others may want Fried Chicken.
What would be a stupid business idea is if they removed that filter option all together.. COUGH 🙄 -

I'm white and prefer black men. The filter would make things easier for everyone. I'll also say I'm older and trans. I know not everyone is into that and I'm ok with it. People need to not be so uptight about preferences. We all have them.
