Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

I believe as a paying customer for many years did I should have the option to filter my preferences when it comes to ethnicity as I have the option to filter age height weight etc. I think that this could be an option and should be an option as It can be done without anyone feeling offended

I was really pissed as a paying customer to find out this basic functionality had been removed. Never did Grindr poll its users or discuss with any of us. They just did it to get some PC credit. Well that won't do them any good if they go out of business for screwing over their customers and removing popular functionality from the app! Wake up, Grindr. Your customers are NOT going to pay unless we get added functionality that helps us find what we want. Taking it away is a losing business model. I will never again pay for a subscription until the ethnicity filter is brought back. Period.

The stupidest thing Grindr ever did was get rid of one of its most basic and most used filters: ethnicity. In a bow to political correctness, Grindr likely lost thousands of paying subscribers. Why would I pay for the app if I can't even filter for what I want even with a paid subscription? I'm an adult. If I have a flavor for a certain ethnicity or they for me, nothing is wrong with that. Indeed, the lack of functionality now makes it difficult to find ethnic minorities in a sea of white suburbia where I live. I will not pay for a subscription again until the ethnicity filter is restored. Period.

It's 2024 and Grindr still thinks that ETHNICITY FILTER is racism. 🤦🏻♂️ still disappointed.
This needs to stop, Grindr. You know you have to put it back soon.

Quite frankly I hate seeing people put down political figures in this forum. I understand that more then half of gay people lean towards the left. Well believe it or not the are a large number of Republican gay folk. In fact I have to look into joining the log cabin club. Anyway to blatantly saw don't even bother if you voted for..... and I hate so and so. Nobody effin cares. Now having said that let's get along and not let stupid shit like that stand in the way of a good time. BUT one question Being that I believe in small government run by the people as our forefathers wanted and got a unique experiment called our Federal Republic in the constraints of democracy, because they knew that democracies always fail given time ie Rome, greece, in other words just because I prefer hot man on man action and never a women. I still where a red tie. I'm not going to to explain my political choice and being judged for it is actually an oppressive act. Peace, love, dove yoooo.

Why is it that we can filter by every characteristic of a person including age, weight, body type, even cut/uncut, as well as sexual positions/interests/kinks, but not by race/ethnicity? If we’re being inclusive then it’s ok to address the fact that people have race preferences just as we do any other characteristic. And no that doesn’t equate to discrimination. Just as filtering by weight or adding uncut or chub to your profile isn’t discriminatory. Moderators should address discrimination through messages, ie. keep a record of chats so when someone reports/blocks, Grindr is able to see the interactions between users even if they blocked/deleted. I just wanna search for black dick in my predominantly white county.

Give me back my freedom of choice to choose the type of person I’m attracted to without wading through hundreds of profiles that I’m NOT interested in, or attracted to. I’m not looking for a history lesson, a social lesson, or for political wokeness, I’m looking for what I’m attracted to, in the easiest manner, since I pay A LOT for this garbage app. Thanks

No matter how much I try, I am only attracted to black guys and arabs, but even if I was attracted to everyone, why would this filter be racist? It’s a preference. I want to be able to find people of color more efficiently, especially since I live in an area where they are very rare. There is no need to make this so political and woke and PC, make Grindr better for us without all that noise please!

The filter by race and ethnicity will not prevent folks from rejecting people because of their race. I say this as a POC and what is actually better for folks to be hit up because the profile was presented as a color blind format and when the pursuer finds out that the person is of color that they end up rejecting the person? Also there are no filters for other categories such as person with disability, unless some self identify, sometimes that could be the reason for someone being rejected. And there are probably other reasons why folks are not as "popular" as others. Therefore it is nearly impossible to create a filter for all possible ways to curb prejudice. In short, please bring the filter back and explain the position that the company has taken and that there are other things that ARE done well to ensure that the user experience is consistent with the core values of the company AND that you are meeting the needs of the customers in a respectful manner.

I would like the ethnicity filter back. Was a good simple part of the app for years and then suddenly taken out without any discussion with subscribers or users. Nobody asked me if I wanted it taken away. Lots of sliders and on/off buttons in the settings. Just have an option for each user to include it in your app or not. Everybody then has a personal choice and doesn't have someone else deciding what is best for someone else. Lets hope for a more positive outcome on this issue in 2022. Happy new year everyone :)

Yeah I also suggest cancelling subscription.I logged a ticket enquiry about the issue and they're not going to bring that back. Working on some searchable tag thing - which is just some bullshit. Even this supposed poll thing is not going to lead to anything. Just stop taking out subscriptions cause it's not worth it. I'm including the feedback from ticket #6621443 below:
Gabriel (Grindr Support)
Dec 22, 2021, 7:55 PSTHi there,
Thank you very much for this feedback. We feel we made the right decision at the time to remove the ethnicity filter. We'd heard feedback from some parts of our community about how this made them feel. Until we could address those concerns properly, we felt it was best to remove this filter.
We know that many of our users want to be able to more easily find the people and connections they are looking for. We have been working hard to make that easier. Furthermore, we will soon be releasing a new feature, searchable tags, that will allow users to more easily find the connections they are looking for!
We will have more information soon, and we can't wait to hear your feedback about it.
Best Regards,
Gabriel @ Grindr Support

Dec 22, 2021, 3:34 PSTI enquired about the return of the race filter before and was directed to the online chat on the topic and the poll that was run. What is the formal outcome of the decision? Extensive justification has been posted on the topic chat already and users want to know. When is the deadline for the decision? Can the company please issue a formal statement.

GOOD GOD.... I'm White and I've dated white American guys but have lived around the world and prefer people of color. I just do NOT connect with other white American men who often have American-Centric views of the world. I enjoy the company of Asian, Latino, Persians and much more.... I'm Bi and have tried being with a trans FtM, but really just prefer a guy's body with a nice dick, not an enlarged clit.
GIVE ME A FILTER TO FILTER IN THE PEOPLE I WANT TO MEET. Don't complicate this feature into political game. People like what they like. Give them that flexibly and move on.

If you believe that a search filter is racist David then you are obviously an idiot. Your "woke" opinion is so obviously biased based on your commentary that you've made your opinion worthless.
