Getting UNBANNED must be faster - via live chat support or a 'second chance' feature
Hi all,
I just got banned while talking to a mate on Grindr. Out of the blue. No warning, no explanation, no nothing. This is all but ridiculous!
I've been using the app for, I don't remember how long now - 6+ years maybe, as it's still not possible to check account creation date despite my feedback to Grindr on the subject months ago - and their system banned me in an instant as if I was using fake ID, advertising, selling, you name it bannable misconduct. Obviously, none of these apply. Yet no first or second warning, nothing at all - just a 'Your account has been banned for violating our Guidelines or Terms of Service' message while I was online and chatting.
This said, I'd like to call for the introduction of a live chat service for users to be able to contact Grindr Support directly and in real time. Right now I'm not even sure whether my in-app report got sent or delivered, as there was no confirmation of any kind neither on-screen, nor via e-mail.
Another suggestion would be the implementation of a 'Second Chance' option that allows offenders to avoid getting permanently banned until another violation. Often, as in my case (although, mind you, I still don't know why I got banned), mistakes do occur - be it on user or app's side - and having the ability to 'postpone' a ban until human Support has decided whether it was a genuine offence that deserved or a ban or a second chance, or it was a mistake due to automated measure in place to prevent abuse.
My only and rather wild guess would be that I got banned for sending my mate a link to show him something. However, I've sent links before and there's never been an issue. I don't remember using an URL shortener though such as bit.do (as in this case). So, if this is what got me banned - a genuine, non-harmful link - I believe it would help many guys to know what EXACTLY is forbidden to send in a private (yeah, right - "private") message and what isn't. How was I even remotely supposed to know using this specific shortener could get me banned? Like, seriously!
Hoping for your support on this, lads.
Kind regards!
We now link directly to a help page and ban appeal form when you get banned. Moderators typically review and respond to ban appeals within 1-2 days.

@Christopher
You can submit a ticket from inside the Grindr app despite being banned from using the service. There's also a way of sending a ticket through their support website. I got my first reply after some 2 weeks or so. -

That's my reddit post. Now I'm not sure if it was a Grindr error, or if it was someone reporting me. Sounds like it could be both now. I wasn't in the middle of meeting up with anyone, but I had just ignored somebody I wasn't interested in. He said something like "wow, didn't expect you be to an a**hole", I didn't respond to that and blocked him.

@CA Where's you post? Do you have any suspicion as to why you got banned? Was it in the middle of a supposedly "private" casual conversation?

This just happened to me last night as well. Made a reddit post and submitted a ticket on Grindr. What a downer, after 7 years of using it.

That's how their system works - no respect for their customers/users, zero communication. Then you gotta wait weeks until, HOPEFULLY, your case is reviewed. It's sad but couldn't really do much about it other than creating this thread when I experienced what you're now experiencing.Just contact their support and hope they'll bother to reply soon. Fingers crossed! o/

They just ban me for no apparent reason and wont reply to my email requesting why for 12 hours now. BTW i had been using the same profile in the same fashion for 6 years or so??? Nothing to violate their terms still ... i got the ban too. Just ridiculous

I too got banned for no reason. Have asked to know why and was told drug info related, or advertising something or violent content. I have done NONE of these even remotely.. They won’t tell me why or what. I think they have the wrong account. Unbelievable!

They banned me after less than five minutes of use and all I did was post a pic of my face. I was furious and told off the company in a viscous email and they tried to bribe me into continuing to use the app by giving me six months for free and reactivate my account after six hours of arguing and providing proof that I had done nothing wrong. This experience made me realize that I’m apparently so ugly that my a simple pic of my face is so offensive to look at that it will cause me to be banned. This all happened four years ago and since then I’ve refused to let anyone take my pic unless it was for an I’d or work related.

Ridiculous. Account banned, no explanation. Help section and emails to Grindr are of no help. If I'd done something wrong, if like to know so I can correct it. Obviously this can be an oversight or mistake on either end with Grindr being too overzealous in banning people. I've tried multiple email addresses for new accounts and they are all banned after a day or so. How about maybe a warning first, that way people are more aware about anything Grindr considers inappropriate for their hookup app...

I've been banned. I've used the app for a couple of weeks, and I cannot figure out why. I complained more than once about having my profile picture, of me in my underwear, rejected. There are literally too many profile pictures to count that have similar if not more revealing photos than mine. But whatever. I let it go. Then all of a sudden I'm banned. I contacted them, and got a response telling me that the ban on my account would not be lifted. But there was no reason given at all. Like @chas mentioned, I've read, and reread, and reread again the guidelines and cannot figure out what I've done. Like my photo rejection, it seems subjective and capricious.
I will certainly share Grindr's shitty service on my social media accounts, and move onto SCRUFF, an app that apparently isn't run by assholes.

As a Grindr Xtra - paying - customer I waited six weeks for unbanning. Needless to say I’ll never pay Grindr any money ever again unless there is a real-time unbanning function and proportionate refunds for the banned.

Well, I got unbanned... 3 weeks later. Yes, Grindr Support is extremely slow and arguably professional but at least they did their job at last.As for Grindir users – this is the case everywhere, really. You can just ignore/block those you dislike and move on. Most importantly, don't take things personally. Some people just don't give a monkey about the impression they make on others. At the same time, there's a passenger for every train, so let it be and have fun.
Cheers! o/

These ******* jackasses ARENT going to un ban you … I was waiting for their response on WHY my account was banned = Never got a response.
They ban for NO REASON and its permanent. This app is full of HATE, not just between ageist / racist members, but their support / staff too! Lovely.

Just got banned for absolutely no reason, what gives? Doesn't matter, there are other, much more user-friendly apps out there

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. @Anonymous, 14th May 2019
Seems Grindr Support still has very low standards. They haven't even told you why you got banned. How are you then supposed to defend yourself? If I hadn't contacted them (multiple times), I would've remained banned without warning and with no explanation. It took them 3 weeks to fix their system's "mistake".My advice to you is to keep trying. You'll eventually reach a Support rep who actually gives a **** about his job and they'll look into your ticket. Sounds like you haven't done anything wrong, not intentionally anyway. And getting a permanent ban right away is just stupid. I posted this suggestion thread almost a year ago and it hasn't even been marked as reviewed. That's some poor quality support. It's just sad.
Good luck and all the very best! o/

I was banned myself the other day - RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of giving someone my address to meet up (so that was ruined). I replied to them and their support write back within minutes saying my profile violated their standards and was reported. There was nothing even in it (just pic of my face and chest, and my text was very neutral, no racist nor hateful preferences, nothing at all offensive).
I emailed them and they told me "we regret to inform you that the ban will never be lifted". I replied again with a screen shot of my profile (a friend sent that to me) asking them to POINT OUT … That was weeks ago and it was never answered. I repeated the SAME email, asking what happened and never herd back. Like most mean people on the app itself - Looks like the support team also singled me out and blocked me.
Yet I see profiles with stuff like "If your over 30 F-- You", or "No Asians", etc … Even with vulgar, racist, and hateful comments RIGHT in their main LINE and profile!!!! Yet I saw those on the app for many months, never banned. So what gives?
