Daniel's correct. There is already.
On iOS they're stored in a transparent, handily searchable, sqlite database. -

Chase: obviously, I can't speak for Grindr, but as of the original implementation, this is not possible. Both use a "hidden" feature of the cloud systems, such that only the developer can see the contents of the backup, and the cloud backups are not platform-independent.

I have an iPhone and when I used this backup feature, it is telling me that it was successfully backed up. But I don't see the backup file in my iCloud. I am switching to an Android and wanted to transfer the backup from iCloud to Googlr Drive but how if the backup is never in iCloud? Is there a way or am I oing it wrong or is this possible?

Keep it simple! Always install everything on a SD card. No transfer or reinstall required. Just switch the card over and let it update for the new device. Should happen automatically if on wifi.

actually there is. If you backup your device before getting your new one, and the restore your old device to your new device (unless you're going from Android to Apple or Apple to Android, then your messages will still be available.

You haven't completed this at all. You've enabled iOS users to back up to iCloud and you've enabled Android users to backup to Drive, but it's not interchangeable. If I get a new phone I should be able to restore to that phone regardless of whether it's iOS or Android. Try again Grindr, and do it properly this time.

I think the issue with 4.2.2 showing up in the App Store is a known Apple issue since they only update you with latest versions once a day regardless of the description you see in the App Store describing the latest version. If you wait until your App Store app receives the latest update versions then you should get a download of 4.3.0. You can also click the link above to force the selection of the latest version. This being said, now that I do have 4.3.0. I don’t see any info on how to get the backup to happen. It’s not clear if it’s automatic or not. Also, I don’t any info to cause a sync of chats from iCloud when opening on another iOS device. There should be a new FAQ with these details.

I have just downloaded the latest version of Grindr - Version 4.2.2
So when will 4.3 be released?
then we can see how it works to preserve chats. -
Bruce commented
I have looked and cannot see any instructions on how to do this chat backup. Where are the instructions please?
-
Carlos P. commented
And HOW exactly does this work? Nothing in the app settings would suggest that this is active yet...
There are instructions on how to do this on Android v4.3.0 but where is the iOS instruction article or setting? -
James commented
Ummmmm. Nope. Another reason the app gets one star. You release a version of the app with a new feature and the feature isn’t in there. Way to go! Again.

4.3.0 Does NOT have the “chat” option to “backup” your chats. Don’t lie please. Thank you.

Well there is no update. I checked. I can only do 4.2.2
