I would like to share an idea for a new feature that I believe could create significant opportunities for Grindr to increase user engagement, introduce a new revenue stream, and provide users with the ability to earn money through exclusive content.

My proposal is called “Gift Chest”, a feature inspired by TikTok's virtual gifting system, but integrated with something Grindr already offers: private photo and video albums.

1. How would Gift Chest work?

Currently, Grindr allows users to share private albums containing photos and videos, with access controlled by the account owner.

My suggestion is to introduce a second type of album called Gift Chest, where users could upload selected photos and videos and make them accessible in exchange for virtual gifts.

The process would work as follows:

• Users would create a Gift Chest, separate from their regular private album.
• They would select the photos and videos they want to include.
• They would set a minimum number or value of virtual gifts required to unlock the content.
• Other users could purchase virtual coins within Grindr and send gifts to reach the required amount.
• Once the target is reached, access to the content would be automatically unlocked, without requiring additional manual approval from the content owner.

1. How would users make money?

Similar to TikTok, users would purchase virtual coins directly through Grindr and use them to send gifts.

A percentage of the revenue would go to Grindr, while the remaining amount would be credited to the content creator's account, allowing them to withdraw their earnings as real money, subject to the platform's payment policies.

This would create a new monetization opportunity for users while encouraging more purchases of virtual coins within the app.

I believe this feature could offer several business advantages:

• New revenue stream: Increased purchases of virtual coins and gifts.
• Higher user engagement: More reasons for users to interact and remain active on the platform.
• Creator monetization: An opportunity for users to generate income from exclusive content.

The Gift Chest would operate independently from the existing private album feature.

Users would remain in full control of the content they choose to upload, the required gift value, and the access conditions.

It would also be important to implement privacy protections, clear payment policies, and safeguards against unauthorized recording, redistribution, or sharing of content.

Final thoughts

I believe Grindr has the potential to go beyond being a dating and social networking platform by also providing tools that allow users to monetize their creativity and exclusive content.

Gift Chest could combine entertainment, interaction, exclusivity, and income generation, creating a business model in which everyone benefits: the users sending gifts, the creators sharing content, and Grindr itself.
