Hi Grindr team,

I wanted to suggest a feature that I think could significantly improve the blocking and safety experience on the app.

At the moment, when you block someone, they can potentially create a new profile and contact you again, sometimes using the same profile photos. This can make blocking feel ineffective, particularly when someone is repeatedly trying to contact you after you’ve made it clear that you don’t want further communication.

It would be really useful if, when blocking a profile, there were an optional feature such as “Block future profiles using these photos”. With the user’s consent, Grindr could potentially use photo-matching technology to recognize the blocked person if they create another account using the same or substantially similar profile pictures, and prevent that account from appearing to or messaging the person who blocked them.

This could perhaps work alongside other privacy and safety measures, rather than relying solely on the photos, since people can obviously change their pictures. The key idea would be to make blocking more effective against repeated attempts to circumvent a block by creating new profiles.

I think a feature like this could give users much greater control over who is able to contact them and could make Grindr feel safer and more comfortable for people who are experiencing repeated unwanted contact.

I’d really encourage you to consider something along these lines for a future update. Thank you for listening to the suggestion.
