Proposal to enhance engagement and safety
I am writing to propose a set of enhancements that could significantly improve user safety, engagement, and overall experience on Grindr. Given the platform’s role in fostering meaningful connections, implementing transparency and accountability features can help create a safer and more enjoyable environment for all users.
Profile Engagement & Reliability Score:
Many dating and social networking apps, such as Scruff and OkCupid, provide users with insights into engagement patterns. Grindr could benefit from:
• A Responsiveness Score, indicating how often a user replies to messages within 24 hours. This feature would reduce frustration and improve matching efficiency.
Verified & Trusted Profiles:
To improve trust and authenticity, Grindr could introduce:
• A Verification Badge (similar to Tinder/Bumble) requiring users to verify their identity via a selfie or government ID. This would help reduce fake profiles and scams.
• A “Trusted User” Badge for users who have consistently positive engagement (e.g., no reports, frequent interaction).
Safety & Accountability Features:
To enhance security and user protection, Grindr could implement:
• Location History Transparency: A feature that shows if a profile has frequently changed its location within a short time frame, helping identify potential scammers or fake accounts.
• Report & Block Insights: A notification system that alerts users if an account has been reported multiple times for similar reasons, providing a red flag for potential misconduct.
User Behavior Insights:
For better engagement and accountability, Grindr could introduce:
• “Mutual Match” Indicator – A feature that highlights when two users regularly engage with each other’s profiles or messages, making conversations more intentional.
• “Community Standing” Rating – Similar to Uber’s rider rating system, users could have a community-based reputation score influenced by factors like responsiveness, positive interactions, and minimal reports.
