Ads are a huge problem. Banner ads and in message ads are fine, as they are minimally invasive. However, the pop up ads that have no way of skipping for no benefit is an absolute atrocity.
Xtra and Unlimited are unreasonably expensive for the features offered, so here's my suggestion:
Make all pop up ads skippable within 5 seconds. A countdown on screen that leads to an appropriately sized X to close the ad is ideal, but I understand this is often out of your control.
Add in a feature whereby you can boost your profile by watching a 1-5 minute ad. Give users the option to earn a month of Xtra or Unlimited by watching a certain number of ads or reaching an ad interaction threshold.
Do something for your userbase, because the state of the app as is will put you out of business entirely.
