Non-LGBTQ criminals often use Grindr as a way to find easy prey to victimize. This is likely because they view gay men/tran women as less likely to be able to defend themselves or because they assume that men hooking up on the platform are closeted and therefore less likely to report crimes such as robbery and violence to law enforcement. These criminals rarely work alone and often have multiple fake profiles on Grindr. Something should be done to better verify or collect identifiable information from all registrants of the service as a measure to protect genuine users and the LGBTQ community altogether.
