Getting UNBANNED must be faster - via live chat support or a 'second chance' feature
Hi all,
I just got banned while talking to a mate on Grindr. Out of the blue. No warning, no explanation, no nothing. This is all but ridiculous!
I've been using the app for, I don't remember how long now - 6+ years maybe, as it's still not possible to check account creation date despite my feedback to Grindr on the subject months ago - and their system banned me in an instant as if I was using fake ID, advertising, selling, you name it bannable misconduct. Obviously, none of these apply. Yet no first or second warning, nothing at all - just a 'Your account has been banned for violating our Guidelines or Terms of Service' message while I was online and chatting.
This said, I'd like to call for the introduction of a live chat service for users to be able to contact Grindr Support directly and in real time. Right now I'm not even sure whether my in-app report got sent or delivered, as there was no confirmation of any kind neither on-screen, nor via e-mail.
Another suggestion would be the implementation of a 'Second Chance' option that allows offenders to avoid getting permanently banned until another violation. Often, as in my case (although, mind you, I still don't know why I got banned), mistakes do occur - be it on user or app's side - and having the ability to 'postpone' a ban until human Support has decided whether it was a genuine offence that deserved or a ban or a second chance, or it was a mistake due to automated measure in place to prevent abuse.
My only and rather wild guess would be that I got banned for sending my mate a link to show him something. However, I've sent links before and there's never been an issue. I don't remember using an URL shortener though such as bit.do (as in this case). So, if this is what got me banned - a genuine, non-harmful link - I believe it would help many guys to know what EXACTLY is forbidden to send in a private (yeah, right - "private") message and what isn't. How was I even remotely supposed to know using this specific shortener could get me banned? Like, seriously!
Hoping for your support on this, lads.
Kind regards!
We now link directly to a help page and ban appeal form when you get banned. Moderators typically review and respond to ban appeals within 1-2 days.

This has happened to me all month. I would get banned and contact customer support. They would reply they reviewed my profile, found nothing wrong, and would be reinstating my account. After changing literally NOTHING about the account it was banned again. They told me once again they found nothing wrong, told me to not do it again (do what exactly??) and reinstated my account. This happened four times until I was permanently banned.
Apparently I am a robot and I never knew it. I thought I was a human trying to meet people like everyone else.
This is frustrating because not only do I lose contact with guys I could only talk to on there, I lose conversations, pictures, and all the time and effort put into using their app. And if I create a new profile (I'm not afraid to show my face) then guys will wonder why I have two accounts. It feels like being branded. I don't appreciate the false accusations with no real expalantion.

Huh, I have experienced the same scenario this week. Got tapped from a guy with anonymous profile, I replied in a way we are not a match, he sent me pictures of genitals, no hello. I replied whether does he understand English or is just desperate? In about 15 minutes my account was banned. I have been using it almost 2 years. The support replied my account was banned for harassment and abuse of other users and the ban will not be lifted. I asked them to delete my account and data at all in that case and requested a ban of the guy sending unsolicited pictures of genitals because that's the real harassment. They've been silent since 3 days.

Wow I thought I was the only one 😮
Well it seem that Grindr's guidelines impose you to f**ck with all the guys in your city, if you refuse to fu*k with all of them, they have the right to bann you by a simple request from just one frustrated guy that couldn't fu*k your a*s...
Grindr gives power to frustrated people because they are probably also frustrated to have created an app and not be able to fu*k one guy from all members on their own app :-\
I Guess now they launched a new game, we should advise all our friend that are not yet banned to play this game... "Report me for banning before I bann you"... You must bann all people that are not your type, if you don't do that you will be banned so just do it, anyway Grindr is helping frustrated people to bann innocent people!! Let's go, be the frustrated on that game before being the victime!!
Hopefully Grindr are not working at Government, they will probably allow all thugs to kill all innocent that doesn't give their money to thugs, then they will put all surviving innocent in jail to help thugs to feel the joy of the power... -

Account was banned following a chat with a guy with whom I respectfully did not want to meet. Timing is curious and leads me to believe it's a retaliation claim. So far, it's been difficult to get anything more than a canned response from their customer support team. Very disappointed that it is so easy for people to victimise on this platform and those who are targeted have little to no recourse to defend themselves. This service is very expensive so the absolute lack of transparency and support is incredibly disappointing.

@Franco
If it's any consolation, you're not alone...
Regarding registering again - you should be able to do so indeed. Up to 3 times per device, if I remember correctly. However, this is not a "solution" to these idiotic bans.
Good luck! o/ -

I also just got banned for no reason. I’m waiting to hear back after 3 days now. I did get an automated response saying they are looking into the case. Is it possible to open a new account under a new email address?

My account was banned I contacted customer support. Took them a month to respond. When they did they said their review team found no justification for the ban and reinstated my account. The next day it was banned again! This has happened to me 4 times in a month! When I ask what keeps happening they tell me they can not disclose company policy.

I'm a trans guy and have been on Grindr over a year. I have never violated terms of service but perhaps my refusal to hook up with every guy that hmu has caused my profile to be reported by a butt hurt loser. I've emailed several times for follow up and just sent a message threatening to file a discrimination claim.

Just got banned. No reason that I can think of. Reinstated immediately when I contacted, then banned again and they don’t respond. No rhyme or reason. All I can think is that someone spiteful and vindictive has reported my account. It’s a really unpleasant way to treat people with no closure. Could really damage someone with mental health issues for a start.

I too, am dissatisfied with Grindr and its lack of service.
My acct was banned about 10 days ago for "violating terms, etc". Knowing this must be a mistake, i reached out to customer service only to have my emails ignored; no response, no explanation. -

I just got banned for "discrimination" but they won't tell me any more details and I've never discriminated against anyone. In their emails they say they reserve the right to ban anyone for any reason they want to, and that they don't have to tell you why. What a garbage company policy and what garbage customer support

I was banned also with no explanation other than I violated the terms of service. They refused to explain what the reason was. I told them to delete my account if I can’t use it and they still have not, and now they won’t respond to my emails. Something isn’t right here.

Like many others in the comments I've also gotten banned out of nowhere recently. Haven't violated any of the ToS so I have no idea why.

I got banned once and after a couple days they said there was, in fact, no reason — it was in error - and they reinstated my account.
Nothing has changed and I just got banned again and they now say they won’t reinstate me because it’s my second ban?!?!
Oh yeah, still no reason other than a generic statement about my profile which hasn’t changed since the last ban!

I had an account for over 7 years, lived in three different cities, never violated terms of agreement, and even have the exact same info as on Scruff. How ever I just moved two months ago, three weeks after I've been here I get banned for spamming. When I contacted customer service about it, I was told the ban was final and if I wanted to I could submit a formal complaint to such and such address. So i created another account with a new email, that account was banned a week ago. I have yet to get a response as to why that one was banned. So I created another and it was banned yesterday, so this time I sent a long explanation with my customer service ticket. I haven't heard back from them on that one either.
It seems we all have similar issues, has any had any luck resolving them? Yeah Grindr sucks, but it's the only way to keep in touch with whats going on around in smaller towns. -

Same thing happened to me. Customer service is a computer bot that just sends everyone they ban the same canned response and no explanation.
Since being bought by China, they seem to be trying to automate the whole thing and its not working
