Getting UNBANNED must be faster - via live chat support or a 'second chance' feature
Hi all,
I just got banned while talking to a mate on Grindr. Out of the blue. No warning, no explanation, no nothing. This is all but ridiculous!
I've been using the app for, I don't remember how long now - 6+ years maybe, as it's still not possible to check account creation date despite my feedback to Grindr on the subject months ago - and their system banned me in an instant as if I was using fake ID, advertising, selling, you name it bannable misconduct. Obviously, none of these apply. Yet no first or second warning, nothing at all - just a 'Your account has been banned for violating our Guidelines or Terms of Service' message while I was online and chatting.
This said, I'd like to call for the introduction of a live chat service for users to be able to contact Grindr Support directly and in real time. Right now I'm not even sure whether my in-app report got sent or delivered, as there was no confirmation of any kind neither on-screen, nor via e-mail.
Another suggestion would be the implementation of a 'Second Chance' option that allows offenders to avoid getting permanently banned until another violation. Often, as in my case (although, mind you, I still don't know why I got banned), mistakes do occur - be it on user or app's side - and having the ability to 'postpone' a ban until human Support has decided whether it was a genuine offence that deserved or a ban or a second chance, or it was a mistake due to automated measure in place to prevent abuse.
My only and rather wild guess would be that I got banned for sending my mate a link to show him something. However, I've sent links before and there's never been an issue. I don't remember using an URL shortener though such as bit.do (as in this case). So, if this is what got me banned - a genuine, non-harmful link - I believe it would help many guys to know what EXACTLY is forbidden to send in a private (yeah, right - "private") message and what isn't. How was I even remotely supposed to know using this specific shortener could get me banned? Like, seriously!
Hoping for your support on this, lads.
Kind regards!
We now link directly to a help page and ban appeal form when you get banned. Moderators typically review and respond to ban appeals within 1-2 days.

Nov 22, 06:12 PSTHello,
We're sorry for the inconvenience.
As previously written, we have reviewed your profile, and although we cannot release any details of the reports we received. We can confirm Grindr will not be removing the ban from the account in part for apparent account irregularity and as a security precaution. Spam is a major disruption to our Community Guidelines.
We’re so sorry to let you go and wish you the best.
Kind Regards, ⭐
Jay @ Grindr SupportGrindr User
Nov 21, 16:48 PSTI don’t thank you for your crummy response. Irregularities because I want to post the same photos that you allow other users to post. Your guidelines are NOT the same for everyone, if they were, you would really be suspending escorts, drug dealers, porn stars and what you deem worthy beautiful people to get their underwear or suggestive photos approved. Yes, I was trying to post photos where I was wearing exactly the same attire as other profiles. You have proved my point. I actually do appreciate the ban. Maybe you should update your algorithms in your next app version to stop the real scammers and use your human capital on better productive projects other than denying someone’s selfie in swimwear, indoors because god forbid... nobody does that.!. and then goes on to post it on a well known SEX site. Who is your staff kidding? Thanks Grindr! Your mission to provide a safe and secure space for your users anywhere to connect to and discover their world have succeeded! Glad a spam account, in your alleged words, could achieve that!

Nov 21, 07:19 PSTWhat sort of spam activity? I’m a regular user and a real person. Not sure what I did, other than have regular communication with other users.

Same problem here. Not only they banned permanently from grinder with no explanation or reason Grinder also ghosted me on Instagram so that all my comments are only visible to me and not to other users. They are taking this to another level.
They claim to stand up for discrimination..... you tell me.

OGM... So many reports in recent weeks, yet Grindr is doing nothing about it! That's really disappointing. Why would anyone would want to subscribe to their expensive extras if we could get banned indefinitely for doing nothing wrong?
@Everyone currently banned for no reason – don't settle for the first generic response you get, guys. Insist on being given a specific reason for your ban, so you can explain why it is actually wrong (automated) or plain made-up. Insist on seeing proof of your alleged offense. I personally got banned for something that wasn't even in the so called Guidelines, yet it took them 3 weeks to lift the ban.

I just got banned for no reason as well. I don't talk to the immediate people in my area b/c, 1, I don't have to. 2. Its my account and I can chat with whomever I want to. That door swings both ways. I think someone reported me for no reason as I don't fight or argue with anyone on this app. I think it's really messed up that I've had the same account for 10 years with no issues, to be removed one morning without a warning or heads up. I've paid money throughout the years too. Unacceptable.

Yep, I got a new phone and was promptly banned out of nowhere last week myself and then quickly reinstated. AND then subsequently banned again—permanently—within 12 hours. I’m totally at a loss for this, as I know I did not violate either their ToS or CG.
But honestly the same local guys are on the other apps for the most part—and frankly the change in UI is welcome. Grindr—if not stale—has become bloated, and the tiered pricing has become ridiculous. If you’re not in a top 5 metro area, there’s no shame to try Scruff, Hornet, or Jack’d, etc. Their prices are more reasonable—if you want the upgrades—and at least 2 of the companies are US-based. (Why the **** are we sending our data and money to the Grindr? China isn’t exactly a leader on gay or human rights these days, and not too long ago the straight prez or ceo said he was personally against gay marriage).
It wouldn’t be such a tragedy if Grindr went the way of MySpace. In fact, gentlemen, I’d recommend we all support other apps in effort to make that a reality sooner than later. The only thing—with this surge of bans—that we should be embarrassed about, is how we let Grindr maintain it’s space in the market after Joel left.

I also just got banned for no apparent reason. Had the account for about 3 weeks now, I don’t engage in anything beyond the terms of service, I report spam bots and don’t post my own nudes or ask for them from others. Logged in after a couple hours offline, checked messages, all fine. Logged out. Logged back in about 10 mins later, new message from an old friend, send him a reply and then I was banned. A live chat to sort this stuff out when I know I’ve not engaged in anything wrong would be really helpful.

This is just crazy, first I was banned for ''Spam'', the guy who supported me ''steve'' says he checked personally and that I was going to be definitely banned, I'm not even sure how is it that they check this....... I ask for proof and nothing happened. I decided to create a new account and it also got banned after 1 day, this time I'm not even able to reach support and I get no answer.

Same as Mark in previous comments - got messages from a "dom" trying to get personal info, answered in frustration until I realized it was a spambot, next thing I know I'm banned. This happened five days ago, I contacted support, still no answer, and I'm losing hope I'm ever going to get one. I find it disheartening, especially since in the last years I did my best to match the great flaws of the app - persistent ads, unreasonable paywall, app overrun by bots, and in general an environment that doesn't promote "healthy" interactions (other dating apps are way better in letting users show their best self) - with all the patience, kindness and friendliness I could find. It's just not decent.
Addendum: it goes without saying that, considered the careless attitude of grindr towards spambots, this comment was posted with a guerrilla mail address. Feeling real bitter tonight.
