Getting UNBANNED must be faster - via live chat support or a 'second chance' feature
Hi all,
I just got banned while talking to a mate on Grindr. Out of the blue. No warning, no explanation, no nothing. This is all but ridiculous!
I've been using the app for, I don't remember how long now - 6+ years maybe, as it's still not possible to check account creation date despite my feedback to Grindr on the subject months ago - and their system banned me in an instant as if I was using fake ID, advertising, selling, you name it bannable misconduct. Obviously, none of these apply. Yet no first or second warning, nothing at all - just a 'Your account has been banned for violating our Guidelines or Terms of Service' message while I was online and chatting.
This said, I'd like to call for the introduction of a live chat service for users to be able to contact Grindr Support directly and in real time. Right now I'm not even sure whether my in-app report got sent or delivered, as there was no confirmation of any kind neither on-screen, nor via e-mail.
Another suggestion would be the implementation of a 'Second Chance' option that allows offenders to avoid getting permanently banned until another violation. Often, as in my case (although, mind you, I still don't know why I got banned), mistakes do occur - be it on user or app's side - and having the ability to 'postpone' a ban until human Support has decided whether it was a genuine offence that deserved or a ban or a second chance, or it was a mistake due to automated measure in place to prevent abuse.
My only and rather wild guess would be that I got banned for sending my mate a link to show him something. However, I've sent links before and there's never been an issue. I don't remember using an URL shortener though such as bit.do (as in this case). So, if this is what got me banned - a genuine, non-harmful link - I believe it would help many guys to know what EXACTLY is forbidden to send in a private (yeah, right - "private") message and what isn't. How was I even remotely supposed to know using this specific shortener could get me banned? Like, seriously!

We now link directly to a help page and ban appeal form when you get banned. Moderators typically review and respond to ban appeals within 1-2 days.

There is something wrong going on. The users are just using the report button for revenge purposes and grindr support simply ban people based on that without any data or evidence. and when you wanted to have a explanation they simply say they have right to refuse or suspend access to any user, for any reason or no reason, and without any notice. By far the worst customer support service ever.

Having the same problem here! My account randomly got suspended after using it for several years! What the heck is this? I’ve opened several accounts later on, and they all got banned for spamming without me even sending a single message. When is this going to stop?

I just got banned for Grindr for being a spam account even tho haven’t done so and also got my tinder account hacked and didn’t help either when I tried contacting both agencies for help.am I ever going to get my account back ?

I also got banned for "spamming" without me ever doing such a thing and only received a very stupid standard answer when I contacted support. I was always respectful to others and never did anything wrong. Getting kicked for no reason really ****** me off. I´ve had it and I am not coming back to Grindr.

I feel Grindr should consider banning users who are found to abuse the “report” button instead. That way, these trigger happy mentally unstable users might consider twice before reporting a user.

Same here. Got banned without a valid reason. When I emailed customer support they said that I’ve “violated community guidelines” by “advertising on user profile”. Asked them for a log of my profile prior to the ban and guess what? There’s absolutely nothing on my profile suggesting that I was in any way advertising. But Grindr being Grindr, they just brushed me off and said that they can’t lift my ban and they’re “sorry to let you go”.

Banned here for no reason also. Said I was involved in spam activity which is just not true. All I told another user was good morning. Also, Was only talking to a few people. Emailed customer support but just got kinda standard replies. Enjoyed while it lasted. Will use better apps and look for new ones.

Definitely Grindr is robbering all users. Grindr just have been banned people without confronting information and steal money from subscriptions.

I have the same problem. I’ve been permanently banned even though I did nothing to violate the community guidelines. Yet, no warning or explanation. I also had like 3 months left on my membership too, so like... Grindr literally robbed me

i just made 3 accounts i am using iphone 11 and the moment i register i get banned right away. their chat on customer service is also useless...they kept on saying the same template message!

I got banned from Grindr and have no idea why, I've been using there ap for many years with no warnings of any kind. When I ask support for an explanation all I get is canned generic answers.
