This would be useful when you get a notification you have a message, and want to just read it. Often I just want to read the message and nothing else, yet because I've read it I've been logged in and I start getting hit up by others who see me online thinking I'm looking.

This is a great idea for when you don't want someone who has favorited you or is very close to you to know that you are online, such as you are just responding to someone else's message or you are looking to chat with someone else. You don't want to block them, and you don't want to give the impression you are not interested in them forever, you just don't want to deal with them at this moment in time. I agree with other comments that you shouldn't be able to chat or interact with anyone until you are back online.

This is the reason I don't use Scruff- appear offline makes that app very creepy. I prefer to know who's watching rather than being stalked by creeps in the dark.

The ones that don't like this idea are the stalkers themselves, they need to ensure that they have all the options before they choose the appropriate person to stalk.

Idiotic idea. Would you go into a club painted in invisible paint or want to be approached by somebody who is invisible to you? No way.

That said, if it happens there should be a strict understanding that you cannot inivisiblise yourself to those you have previously spoken to.

I think incognito/offline should be an option but when it is selected the user can not interact with others. If a user in incognito/offline status sends a message to or pokes someone else, they then show as online to that user and can be replied to and/or reported if needed. I live in an area with a bunch of ***** old men. I try to be nice and let them know they aren’t my type but as soon as they see I am online they begin messaging me left and right. I do block as needed and have resorted to deleting my profile and starting a new one up some time later. Having the option to not appear online to people until I want to communicate with them is a benefit to me and others who don’t know when I will be deleting my profile due to others.

Not okay with this. It’s creepy and scary to me. Here are enough people afraid to even put their pics on Grindr due to discretion and people creeping would NOT help that. You never know what someone’s situation is that makes them stay discreet.

It's insane that we can't disable and hide our profiles temporarily (like we can on Scruff). In order to hide my Grindr profile from my colleagues and college students at work, I have to COMPLETELY delete my entire profile before class, then after, completely re-join and rebuild my profile, re-write everything, re-attach my pictures, etc. That's stupid. You're losing customers because of it, and you need to fix that immediately.
