Only Allow Messages from Profiles with a Clear Face Photo
I'd like to request a new privacy setting that gives users more control over who can message them.
The problem
The grid filter helps me see profiles with photos, but it doesn't control who can contact me. I get messages from blank or faceless profiles every day. I have to ask for a face pic every time, and what comes back is often blurry, cropped, hidden behind sunglasses, or clearly years old. This wastes time on both sides and makes it harder to know who I'm talking to.
Proposed solution: an opt-in "Inbox Filter"
• Off (default): current behavior
• Face photo required: only users with a clearly visible face photo in their profile can message me
• Face photo with first message: users without a face pic can still contact me, but must attach at least one clear face photo to their first message. Otherwise the message isn't delivered and the sender sees a short notice.
"Clearly visible" could be checked with face detection: face fully visible, no sunglasses or masks, no heavy filters, minimum image quality.
Bonus: photo age indicator
Show when a photo was uploaded (e.g. "Uploaded 4 months ago"). Even your own team has joked about pre-pandemic photos. This would build trust and encourage people to keep their profiles current.
Why this matters
• Saves time and frustration for both sides
• Reduces catfishing and improves safety
• Encourages better profile quality
• Respects anonymity: faceless users can still use the app freely. The "first message" option lets discreet users share their face privately with one person instead of publicly in their profile.
This could also work well as an XTRA/Unlimited feature.
Thanks for considering it!
