Enhancing album sharing integrity
Proposal: Enhancing Album Sharing Integrity on Grindr
Problem Statement
The current album-sharing feature on Grindr creates a serious imbalance. Users who share genuine photos often end up being exploited by others who:
Use fake or stolen pictures.
View private albums without reciprocating.
Block the sender immediately after viewing, leaving genuine users vulnerable and frustrated.
This one-sided sharing dynamic has caused distrust and hostility, making Grindr feel less safe and more toxic. Instead of fostering connections, the app risks pushing away authentic users who value honesty and fairness.
Proposed Solution: Mutual & Verified Album Sharing
- Mutual Access Requirement
When Person A shares their album with Person B, Person B must also share their album in order to unlock access.
This ensures reciprocity, fairness, and eliminates one-sided exploitation.
- Verification of Albums
Albums must be verified (through simple in-app checks such as selfie + real-time camera verification) before they can be shared.
This reduces fake profiles, catfishing, and misuse of others’ images.
- Unblockable Viewing Until Reciprocity
Once an album is shared, it remains viewable until the recipient also shares their album.
This prevents users from instantly blocking after seeing someone else’s private content without reciprocating.
Benefits for Grindr
Builds trust and fairness between users.
Reduces fake accounts and catfishing, improving platform reputation.
Encourages authentic connections, making Grindr safer and more enjoyable.
Retains genuine users who are otherwise disheartened by the current exploitative system.
