The amount of spam accounts is out of control, and it doesn't seem like Grindr is doing much about it. Here are some ideas:

Delete the social fields from profiles and set up better text filters for profile text. The social media fields are only used for spam anyway.

Or, keep a record of the spam social accounts and just block those from being linked. Many are constantly linking to the same social account, how hard is it to block that account from all profiles?

Shadow ban accounts that get one spam report until they verify as human. This slows down spam accounts making them less worthwhile.

Limit the ability of new accounts to tap people. Taps and social links are the main tools of spammers.

Bring back blocking. The correlation between removing blocks and increasing spam is pretty obvious.

Track which uses are providing consistently reliable spam reports. Increase the weighting on their reports so when they flag a profile it gets shadow banned until review.

Spam profiles usually just put up a fake picture and then profile text sending you to socials. I'm assuming they never respond to messages. The ratio of messages received to messages sent could be used as an indicator, especially for new accounts.

Once you introduce more of these ways to flag accounts that are likely spam, you can either shadow ban until they verify as human (or until review), or remove features until they verify. For example you could disable their ability to tap until verify, or hide their images until verify, remove the things that spammers are relying on to get wide exposure.

Something has to be done to try and address this, the app is approaching 50% spam at this point.
