Giving specifications shouldn't decrease the number of profiles you can see without paying. Narrowing the age range to like 3-4 years around my age and then saying I only want to see profiles with face pics gives me 15 profiles I can look at without paying. That's it. If I was interested in any of those 15 people I wouldn't need the app anymore. If I don't narrow it down I get either a bunch of guys who are too old or too young for me, or it's just a bunch of blank/torso shot profiles, so limiting the number of profiles in that way makes the app functionally useless for anyone who can't or doesn't want to pay.
