Permanent Bans
It is none other than draconian to simply permanently ban people without even issuing a reason for the ban (which does not have to involve specifics or reveal the identity of the person who reported the user). Common sense implies that people can not strive to correct their behavior if they are not even aware of what they did wrong. Furthermore, if in an appeal a user at least has the maturity to admit what they did wrong, that should be taken into consideration. There is no reason whatsoever to permanently ban a user who has used the app successfully for over a decade simply for a first violation. Even courts don’t tend to operate this way against first offenders. Users may have histories against a person which may be rooted in trauma or abuse, and sometimes emotions may get in the way causing a lapse of judgment. There is just no reason to permanently ban someone over a first offense unless they are blatantly threatening someone’s life or safety. It is sheer hypocrisy when you have many other users blatantly advertising and promoting illegal drug use with capital T’s or G’s in their profiles. Meanwhile most users just mind their own business and don’t even bother to report them since we simply view it as none of our business. Other apps like Scruff at least have the decency to issue warnings or temporary suspensions instead of a single blanket style ban. This only results in members of an already vulnerable and often targeted community to feel even more isolated with less options to connect with others. It is sheer hypocrisy. I was banned for expressing my feelings to a person I know to be a pathologically narcissistic abuser; meanwhile this abuser who hides being BDSM and kink as a camouflage is allowed to stay on the app and play the victim as he always does while looking for other vulnerable men to abuse. The person is smart and likes to take conservations off the app onto Snapchat and text to cover his tracks. But I get a permanent ban. Okay Grindr 👌👌👌
