Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

If a guy has no face pic and leaves out his ethnicity, I’ll assume he’s Asian, Indian etc. and won’t bother.

Mixed-race users should not have to pick "mixed" or "other" as our race—it's not representational of who we are. All users should be able to accurately reflect their identity in a manner most comfortable to them.
Maximizing this kind of flexibility and giving users agency in self-identification would hopefully combat negative race-related issues on the app—as well as eliminating the dreaded "what are you?" conversation.

This should always be required

I would like to see a couple of new characteristics to Grindr: Are you a smoker? If you select, "mixed" as your race, please clarify the races that make you mixed? For example: German/Italian, Afro-American/Latino, etc. Thank you!

We shouldn’t have to pay for XTRA to do this. I live in an area where it’s 98% white cis males. Personally I prefer black guys and should not be subjected to the XTRA fee to be able to connect with other ethnicities. To have to pay for that filter just seems so rigid and out dated. Is 2019 you shouldn’t be having an ethnicity filter as a privilege it’s crazy! Take away this privilege and let all users have access to this filter and let us reach out to each other and connect, don’t be that Donald Trump wall in our society.

I hear you but as a person of color to be honest we are tired of seeing ur guys profiles with " I love blacks!!" Hitting me up calling me chocolate. THIS IS NOT OK. only non people of color have an issue with this.

"As a dark skinned man, I couldn’t agree more."
So you need to refer to your skin to form an opinion? That comment stereotypes the dark-skinned into not being able to think as individuals.
"It’s about time we have a mechanism to make people aware of a racist profile."
A racist profile speaks for itself. People are unaware of a profile being so because they thing otherwise. You are just trying to make out problems that don't exist and force them onto other people. You make up your mind, they make up theirs. We do not need your "mechanism" to brainwash others into your somewhat sad mindset.
Try using your grey matter instead of your skin to think. It's very liberating.

Nice to see you plant the flag of racism even in this thread Steven El Truinbador..

"The burden to "block" racist users should not fall on those targeted"
Idiotic in the extreme. It is for victims to report it. No victims means no problems and free speech being suppressed by patronising assumption.
"Second, profiles with "no ____" should not, I think, be tolerated when they are exclusionary on the basis of race or, for that matter, body type.
The ignorance expressed here is unbelievable. This site is about quick hook-ups based upon physicality and things like "no fatties/blacks/oldies" are clearly in that very context of physicality to save everyone from wasting time. If my race, age, body type falls outside of a users tastes whilst all other fall within I am grateful that they took the trouble to say so.thus saving me time, hassle and rejection.

Hi, in english, Indian people may be people from India or native people from Brazil or North America. So as i am Goan, from India always lived in Portugal. You translate indian to INDIO(as native people from Americas. An indian from India, for portuguese speakers, should be written as INDIANO.
Everyone who lives here and reads my profile, see INDIO, in spite on INDIANO.It is completely different. I hope you understand this, as this is also a prejudice issue.
I have written to you twice, and i didn't know you would solve this by email. -

Since there is a way for Xtra users to filter people by race, then it would be helpful for us to filter guys who are interested in the race that we identify with. For example, I am Asian. I would like for the grid to show users who are interested in Asian guys. This way, people can see others who are mutually interested.

Why? So you can avoid some races/ethnicities?! Why would you need to do that?
-
Mark Porter commented
Why should race or ethnicity matter to you? Unless, of course, you're prejudging guys based on this.

But let the user choose whether they want to show or hide it on their profile, just like age.

I watched your video on racist on Trindr. I found it interesting how you focused on what I found to be not so much racism but instead a person preference. Like me for instance. I’m an older Bear. I’m a very large man. I’m very confident in who I am. I know most or a lot of men on Grindr would rather be with twinks and I’m ok with that. I have hit on men who have been blunt enough to say that they are not into my type of guy. I’m cool with that and left it at that. I’m into black men. And have been very frank about it too people. By your video I would be racist. However, I think your video is going a bit to far, to deal with this issue. Your blurring preference and racist ideology. The use of words to demean people Yes is Racist. But to say a person is well spoken is not racial. It’s an observation. If that person said “your well spoken for a black guy.” Yes racist! And not being into a particular group of people is also a preference. So people are not into Bears as some are not into Black, or asian or even Jewish men as I am. That’s a preference. But if that person who’s not into black men because they are lazy, racist. But if they simply say “ sorry pI’m not into black men.” Or “I’m not into Bears!” That’s pointing out a preference not an insult. I think these people are being over the top taking offense over something that’s really a small thing

No. Let them speak their truth. Then, I, an others, can avoid them.
I'd rather know than have to learn in an awkward situation.

You got my vote. This bill just happened to me the other day. Everyone was telling me I should have reported him, but he blocked me after sending an extensive note, using the n word numerous times. I have receipts. I guess we aren't allowed to post them here.

Issue is, a majority of users don't list their ethnicity.
I'd vote to remove the "race" filter altogether.
