Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

I’d like to be able to search by race

There should be an option to select Latinx (and also Latina) for "ethnicity." Spanish is a gendered language, and Latino is not aligned with non-binary and female identifying persons using this app, myself included.

Allow users to filter their feed by ethnicity for free. For instance, I do not want to date/meet black guys. In a country that is predominantly black, this app is mostly a waste of time for people that do not want to engage with another ethnicity for the reason they've joined the app.

It’s hard for someone that lives in a rural community to actually meet someone who isn’t part of the same race/ethnicity. Don’t have the money to pay for the whole membership.

I think you should have the option to choose the ethnicity of who and what you are looking for even if you are a free member. I know for me I would rather go to another app instead of being forced to see something I don’t care to.

Add a Not Specified category to the Ethnicity filter, similar to the Not Specified category in other filters. Some guys just don’t specify their ethnicity and it would be nice to see them in the filtered results.

Dear Grindr Folks,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for the work you are doing on racism and discrimination. Moreover, Grindr brings the opportunity for people to connect. According, to research dating apps make it more likely for people of different ethnicities to connect. For example, if someone, say, white, sends a message to a brown person. The brown person may not respond at first, but the next time, a white person writes, they may.
The the reason I am composing this message is because I came to wonder why Grindr employs terms such as ethnicity and then add options such white, black, etc. Firstly, these are not ethnicities, but a different way to rank and categorize people. There is a notion that people have ‘preferences’ However, where does ‘preference’ stop, and where does bias, prejudice, discrimination, or racism begin? It may seem, in all the effort to fight racism and discrimination Grindr is using the same principles that divide people.
Preferences are not set in stone. Just like in real life, the more exposure you get to different people, the more diverse preferences get. The message should be, we are born equal, we are connected regardless of ***, gender, sexuality or ethnicity. Encourage people to talk to someone they may have not otherwise met in their everyday life.
We can use globalization and the internet to do even better. In case there is an interest to look deeper into the matter, the statements above are based on research.
Happy holidays

Please change the classification of African people from "black" to African.
There's absolutely no reason that you can run an app in Africa, and still be okay with using derogatory classification and language, especially on people in their own continent.
LGBTQI+ related organizations should stand as defenders of human rights, and not stand as perpetrators of demeaning language. Most if not all african countries have made great strides in changing the terminology, I just feel it would be best if apps that people used reflected that change.
We a month shy to 2020, let's get it right. And be on the right side of history.

Considering we only get 250 characters to work with, it's easier & quicker to say what you're not looking for as opposed to what you are

When using filters, for example being specific on groups or race, the one turning on the filter shouldnt show up in search of others the filter excludes. Exp. If I am not into latino dudes my profile shouldnt show up in searches of ppl that are latino.

I think ethnicity needs a write-in option and I think you have to change most of the ethnicity options because most of them are races (which are scientifically disproven to exist; East and West Africans are for example more genetically different than Europeans and East Asians). I think you could add ethnicity options or nationality options, you could expand what's available (for example, should Indians and Chinese both have to write Asian as their option??? Realistically). Or you should offer a write-in. Or, procure a list of ethnic groups...but there's tons. I think you're using ethnicity and a euphemism for race (what this really is about people, let's be real...big black ****, passive Asian bottom, party lyf Latino...which isn't a race already...or an ethnicity even...so). Anyway...fix it! Haha.

The reason you see so much negativity is due to other users... Particularly old men that just hammer the **** out of every young guys profile... They won't take no for an answer and we have limited blocks... So we have to specify exactly what we don't want just to try stop being harassed by guys that won't take no for an answer

Love how its racist to not find certain races sexually attractive. Why dont you sleep with woman? That's sexist! They have just as much right to sleep with you as anyone you choose to sleep with. Oh what's that? It's not your preference? Hmmm...

The ethnicity category is littered with awful inaccuracies. I recently wrote to Xtube about the same topic, and it is an conflict gay service providers need to face and do something positive about.
I understand most people of The United States of America are white, and therefore most users of Grindr, and the owners of it, and the operators of it, etc. BUT, these options were clearly made by people who have no knowledge of and sensitivity to race and culture. It is important to allow users to dictate their own cultures and not have to be subjected to the insufficient options you left for us to use. You wouldn't like it for you, chances are, so don't structure it like this for us.
Let me say that the ethnicity option on profiles is awful to begin with, especially the filtering. But in a big city it can be a useful way for people of an ethnicity to see who's available and connect, if that's the basis of their connection. AND, it's useful for people to get to know another ethnicity. However all this can be written in the profile section and not have filtration options. But since you're racist, I'm presuming, and white, I'm presuming, you believe it's your God-given, American constitutional right to ignore all the black and mestizo people around you, and only look at "Asians" when you want an exotic bite-sized snack. You love these filters because they give your camp the power it's always had and you can't do without that. Okay, enough of my vitriol.
I would rather have the option of a write-in, such as is available for gender. I know people will make a lot of jokes about it, but a lot of people will feel honored and relieved that they can actually write their own culture in it (i.e. South Asian and East Asian, versus simply Asian - a designation which, whether or not your mind accepts this fact, encompasses people from Russia to Indonesia, Lebanon to Japan).
Please remember most of the options available aren't actual ethnicities, such as Asian, Middle Eastern, and Mixed. Also, using the terms White and Black is troublesome since they are used outside the USA too. Therefore, a Latino or a Middle Eastern person very well may be White or Black, Asian, or any other grossly overdrawn heritage group that didn't really exist until the first world said "let's play a game...".
Maybe what you really mean to say is...race...but you're afraid to say it because it's inflammatory. Although, to be sure, Asian, Latino, Middle Eastern, Mixed, and Other aren't human races as defined by any theories on race. Maybe what you mean is color...but I don't think you'd open a color category because white people wouldn't like being associated with Hispanics and Middle Easterners and Asians. Nor would they with them.
Anyway, after two years of use, I'm tired of subjecting myself to these inaccurate categories. I'm personally Black American, but I don't consider my ethnicity the same as all Black Africans for example. You made a big leap for gender identity and expression. Which I loved and gaped and applauded at. But I would like you to do the same for cultural heritage.
Kindly,
A User
