Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.

Thanks to Grindr leadership and taking out the ethnicity filter has pushed away 95% of other ethnicities in general, now 95% of the guys are white, very few blk,Asian etc
So who's the real racist here, I think we all can agree judging by comments and Grindr now being made up of 95,% white men that the real racist here is GRINDR -

I agree!
As a caucasian person mostly attracted to non-caucasians, I found that filter extremely useful. In fact, it missing is the main reason why I'm not subscribing to Grindr extra -

As a latino gay male with a set preference for white or east asian guys, it was a complete disservice to remove the ethnicity filter.
This is a fucking hookup app, where we look to have sex and have a nice time with other males we find physically attractive, and the absence of the ethnicity filter for ideological reasons won't make anyone want to bang somebody they are not attracted to.

Presumably, the point of a commercial enterprise like Grindr is to give users the best possible user experience for the purposes of securing recurring and growing business. Removing search filterers that make it more cumbersome to identify the partners you are looking for, surely isn't user friendly. Bring it back.

Selection of sex partners based on ethnic filtering criteria has absolutely nothing to do with racism. We cannot control whom we are sexually attracted to - we are as we are, no-one could or should explain their sexual desires, and being attracted only to certain demographics is by no means discrimination. For example:
- People don't choose to be straight, gay or bi - it's not sexism to have there preferences.
- It's not ageism to prefer people of a certain age.
- It is not racist to prefer certain ethnic profiles. The removal of this filter is just political correctness gone mad. It benefits no-one - getting turned away at the doorstep because of your ethnicity could be a humiliating experience that is totally avoidable if we have the filter.

For crying out loud already. Bring it back. If you're a racist a$$hile then be that way and use it for that purpose. I imagine our people of color don't give a $hit about it if it doesn't make it harder to connect, which I bet it DOESN'T.

I agree. I'm white but like getting with middle eastern men. Does that make me racist? Seriously, the "solidarity" stuff is a joke, a knee-jerk reaction to something which was never an issue on Grindr. People will still have preferences with or without the filter. But at least with the filter people will match with the people they want without the awkward blocking or ignoring.

@alexandersavior There are 150 different tags in GrindR's search filter. How does adding an ethnicity element further "fracture" our community? There are all sorts of aspects of an individual's preferences and desires -- some related to behavior, but also physical attributes. It seems bizarre that, of all those aspects, just ONE is determined as too sensitive for us to handle.

I have never used the ethnicity filter and don’t see any use in restoring it. I think filters run the risk of further fracturing our community. If you know what you want you are free to pursue that. It feels harmful to reduce a diverse community to singular standards of what we find sexually appealing.

Not giving Grindr another dime until ethnicity filter is brought back. If they were smart business people they would make this filter a paid-only service. Way more people would pay up.

I have marched Black Lives Matter protests while we had people throwing things at us or berating us and I’m white my neighborhood though that I live in is mostly African American although I am not sexually attracted to African Americans it would be a great help if I could have this filter back so that I can enjoy the app for what it is intended for sex and not just hanging playing video games with dudes

I don't think Grindr is listening to our opinions. I mean, if you don't like the ethnicity filter, then DON'T USE IT!!
I don't think I'll renew my annual subscription.

The ethnicity filter has absolutely nothing to do with police brutality against black men, or with systemic discrimination against minorities in general. The fact that the ethnicity filter was removed in response to backlash from BLM is emblematic of the type of superficial changes made as part of the 2020 "racial reckoning" that were simply done to demonstrate "allyship".
Dating is not like college admissions or job applications where there needs to be standards to ensure fairness in the system. Sexual attraction is incredibly arbitrary and personal, and we just need to accept that people have preferences regarding which ethnicities they find attractive. If you think have appearance-based preferences like that is discriminatory, this standard needs to be applied consistently across the board, not just to race/ethnicity. The only reason ethnicity has been singled out is because it has been a hot button issue politically in recent years. I hope now that some of the noise has died down we can come to our senses.

I am Middle East guy and I only prefer to date Middle East people on Grindr hence we understand our culture and language it makes easy for me to find a partner and talk to . Or even making a good friend. I don’t think that ethnicity filter is considered as racism. It’s a choice of which type of people I wanted to date to.

It's not just that having the BASIC functionality of an ethnicity filter isn't racist. That's obvious. But the case is stronger than that. NOT having the ethnicity filter is racist. Many, if not most, used the filter to actively seek out minorities and include them, not to exclude them. Grindr had to have an awfully poor opinion of its own users to think otherwise. But eliminating the filter, all I see now on my screen is a sea of white. I'm white myself but this isn't what I want to see. I want to be able to share love with my beautiful black brothers and Asian brothers and Middle Eastern brothers, etc. It's stupid and wrong to assume that a filter itself is racist. People who used it that way are the minority and will continue to exclude. By taking away the filter you did nothing to stop that. All you did was make it harder TO INCLUDE.
Bring back the ethnicity filter, Grindr! Stop supporting exclusion!!
