@Delmar walton - Currently on iPhone we can’t change the iconic well known sound unfortunately. On Android open Settings - Go to Notifications - App Notifications - Tap Grindr from the list - Tap Notification Categories - Tap the category you want to change the sound for - make sure Alert is selected then tap sound then you should be able to select a different sound for that category. Do this for all the notification categories you would like to change the sound for. Hope this helps.

This absolutely needs to happen, the Grindr sound is very distinctive, and if it goes off accidentally there is a very real risk of it out-ing someone. There must be an option to use a default iOS/Android notification sound.
