Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
The term “PII,” as defined in OMB Memorandum M-07-1616 refers to information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, either alone or when combined with other personal or identifying information that is linked or linkable to a specific individual. The definition of PII is not anchored to any single category of information or technology. Rather, it requires a case-by-case assessment of the specific risk that an individual can be identified. In performing this assessment, it is important for an agency to recognize that non-PII can become PII whenever additional information is made publicly available - in any medium and from any source - that, when combined with other available information, could be used to identify an individual. This policy not only violets the rights of it's users, it puts them in harm's way.
This policy will not only cost Grindr it's already shakey reputation, it also opens them up to lawsuits.
I understand that you may be trying to protect your users by knowing where they were last seen if something were to happen. As a compromise, Grindr can obfuscate users location thru the app directly as well as keep the actual location private.

I fully agree, this policy change may be illegal, as the app would be giving out personally identifiable information against users rights.

This is gonna sound a little ********* but frankly I don't think it's a good idea to add an HIV filter simply because people will go out and find these HIV positive fellows and harass them, or even worse scenarios with people having agendas ( this happens)

This is simple- just deploy grindr over the Tor network using Orbot proxy.

The problem with this is that STD information is protected health information (PHI) under HIPAA law, which requires a medical release form be signed in ink, and requires that the information cannot be re-released without explicit authorization on a per-release basis, and only then, for bona-fide medical purposes. Plus, the servers would have to be upgraded to HIPAA compliant security standards. This idea, while great, simply isn't doable in the eyes of the law.

I get being discreet, but all the blank profiles are just annoying. Also, all the fake "add me" on such n such site or "see my pics at" site shouldnt be allowed.

I agree with everything posted here to allow Fake location, those who do not want it because they have boyfriends, it is because they are bitchs, they want to date and continue in the bitching, when there is suspicion of being betrayed, it is best to use fake location as has happened to many others.
Plus, I have the right to my privacy and I don’t want to be close to home or work, see where I am, when I want to stop using Fake location I can always do it anytime.
If not, it is best to change the APP, since Grindr does not have a good reputation in the face of competition, not least because in the past the CEO of the company was anti gay, then he came with excuses, yea, because the money speaks louder, in fact, this an act of falsehood, o real fake -

Why can't they still require the location but let us fine tune it say within 100 miles. Like I wanna meet someond tonight in Milwaukee, but I have to wait until I drive there tonight and it will be too late. Not trying to turn it on up here in Oshkosh and have the locals bug me at work.

Im so soooo disappointed! Do programmers think of all the gays living in homophobic countries (and sadly there are more of them than the liberal ones), living in small towns, not big cities... - and we CAN'T CHANGE OUR LOCATION?!?! Maybe you stopped scammers, but you also made a way for bullies and gay hunters - yes, if I go on grindr, a bully can hunt me and will always see me on same distance, it happened before. Also if I plan to travel, ofc I want to see boys from there and get into some touch... WHATS THE POINT OF GAY DATING APP IF WE CAN'T CONNECT WITH OTHER MEN?!?! Sorry grindr, but if you don't change it back, you will turn to least popular gay app very quickly, trust me.
