    "middle eastern" bears a colonial heritage, as it describes a geographical region that has been colonised by european countries in relation to europe and its other former colonies in the "far east" eg india.
    a more accessible description could be the anagram SWANA, meaning "south west asian and north african", and referring to predominantly arabic, turkish and kurdish speaking countries.
    neither SWANA nor "middle eastern" could be considered ethnicities in the first place, but at least its a geographically accurate description for what most caucasian-minded understand when using the (wrong) "term" "middle eastern".
    give people the chance to customize what they identify with ethnically, like its featured for the gender section!
