Everyone needs to keep seeing that people of ethnicities you don't like still exist. I have preferences for certain ethnic looks too. But from time to time I come across a gorgeous man outside that ethnic preference that I can't help but try to approach. It's unfair to put a label on an entire group of people whose ethnicity is outside their control and choice and then filter them out as if you want them to not exist and tell yourself that you are absolutely sure you will never be interested in them. You don't have to be a genocidal Nazi with gas chambers ready to go in order to qualify for racism. Excluding an entire ethnic group from anything you want to be a part of easily qualifies as racist. In short, and I quote my grandma, how do you know you don't like it if you don't try it?
The ethnicity filter is inherently not a bad thing. But it is something racists use to be racist. Asians and Indians are already at the bottom of the dating food chain thanks to the racist stereotypes that even non racists use and because of which find them undesirable and use the filter. Grindr is already a racist cesspit. This move is only a miniscule step in the right direction albeit very late.
