Filters are inherently discriminatory, and that’s OK when the intent is not hateful or malicious. Oxford English Dictionary defines discriminate: (verb) 1. recognize a distinction; differentiate. "babies can discriminate between different facial expressions of emotion". The word has no hateful or malicious meaning but many of you fail to understand that, and many of you understand the word incorrectly. To discriminate on Grindr is to use Grindr. Everyone is discriminated by all of the other “filters” which should be called “discrimination ranges” or “exclusion categories”. And the people who don’t respond to messages can be perceived as discriminating for one reason or another, even when a user may inadvertently overlook a received message. The inability to not take things personally is shocking. I support the ethnicity filter and I have wanted it back since the moment it was removed. It is normal to find a person attractive based on a range of physical and mental/emotional characteristics and traits. Anyone who claims otherwise is delusional. It is not “racist” for a person to not be sexually attracted to another person who is of a different race. And if a person is not attracted to an entire race of people that’s OK too, because it’s not hateful or malicious (if it is then of course that is racist). If you know what you like you know what you like. You cannot tell another person they are wrong for liking what they like and justify that because it’s race or ethnic based, but when you discriminate against tops or bottoms as a group that’s totally fine. Get real. We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto. And you’re not post-racial.
