Please restore ethnicity filter
I am Asian, and I would like to have the ethnicity filter option back. As a "minority", I don't think the filter option is racist. It offers me choices. Sometimes I want to search for Asians for example,, and if there is this option, it will make my search much easier to find.
Love how its racist to not find certain races sexually attractive. Why dont you sleep with woman? That's sexist! They have just as much right to sleep with you as anyone you choose to sleep with. Oh what's that? It's not your preference? Hmmm...

Of course! Because they became god. Deal with it.
The ethnicity category is littered with awful inaccuracies. I recently wrote to Xtube about the same topic, and it is an conflict gay service providers need to face and do something positive about.
I understand most people of The United States of America are white, and therefore most users of Grindr, and the owners of it, and the operators of it, etc. BUT, these options were clearly made by people who have no knowledge of and sensitivity to race and culture. It is important to allow users to dictate their own cultures and not have to be subjected to the insufficient options you left for us to use. You wouldn't like it for you, chances are, so don't structure it like this for us.
Let me say that the ethnicity option on profiles is awful to begin with, especially the filtering. But in a big city it can be a useful way for people of an ethnicity to see who's available and connect, if that's the basis of their connection. AND, it's useful for people to get to know another ethnicity. However all this can be written in the profile section and not have filtration options. But since you're racist, I'm presuming, and white, I'm presuming, you believe it's your God-given, American constitutional right to ignore all the black and mestizo people around you, and only look at "Asians" when you want an exotic bite-sized snack. You love these filters because they give your camp the power it's always had and you can't do without that. Okay, enough of my vitriol.
I would rather have the option of a write-in, such as is available for gender. I know people will make a lot of jokes about it, but a lot of people will feel honored and relieved that they can actually write their own culture in it (i.e. South Asian and East Asian, versus simply Asian - a designation which, whether or not your mind accepts this fact, encompasses people from Russia to Indonesia, Lebanon to Japan).
Please remember most of the options available aren't actual ethnicities, such as Asian, Middle Eastern, and Mixed. Also, using the terms White and Black is troublesome since they are used outside the USA too. Therefore, a Latino or a Middle Eastern person very well may be White or Black, Asian, or any other grossly overdrawn heritage group that didn't really exist until the first world said "let's play a game...".
Maybe what you really mean to say is...race...but you're afraid to say it because it's inflammatory. Although, to be sure, Asian, Latino, Middle Eastern, Mixed, and Other aren't human races as defined by any theories on race. Maybe what you mean is color...but I don't think you'd open a color category because white people wouldn't like being associated with Hispanics and Middle Easterners and Asians. Nor would they with them.
Anyway, after two years of use, I'm tired of subjecting myself to these inaccurate categories. I'm personally Black American, but I don't consider my ethnicity the same as all Black Africans for example. You made a big leap for gender identity and expression. Which I loved and gaped and applauded at. But I would like you to do the same for cultural heritage.
if you feel like its to hard to have to look at the pictures of other people and make that judgment call weather you like them or not but you feel that somehow you should be spared the injustice of seeing people that might differ in appearance from your personal preference then you should never leave your home much less be dating in any way shape or form. and just for info regardless of your appearance your ideology is that of less than a bacteria or fungus and with any luck alcoholism is doing its job and purifying our universe of your kind
this is just SAD. what in the **** is wrong with people you seriously are petty bitchs and i hope you experience the perpetration of raceism against your person in a preferably non physical manner that can afford the opportunity to see the error in your thought process. just sad that its 2019 and some of us still need to evolve!
that is racist my friend i do not mean to be offensive but the entire idea that you are constructing is the cause for the tragic and unacceptable part of our history that was unfortunately perpetrated against people of color. i understand a desire to fined more people like you but i feel that when you do so and make it possible to do so based solely on the color of skin or the heritage of there family you are doing yourself and everyone else a grave disservice.
Good Day Sirs
I'm an active member of the grindr app. But of recent I've been very unhappy. I've notice that unless I pay for grindr extra my access to more black profile are very limited or restricted.
I find this very unfair that as a black guy and only attracted to only other black guys that all I see is white profiles, and what I find strange is that I live in a highly black populated area. When ever I have access via grindr extra only then I can see my black brothers.
I believe I'm being forced to spend money I dont have to gain access to my preference. It seems like black men are be treated as ****** commodity or trophy that other blacks have to pay for. Can you please look into my concern and how best this issue can be compromised.
Just because people like what they like, doesn't make them racist. Sorry, try again bro!
If a guy has no face pic and leaves out his ethnicity, I’ll assume he’s Asian, Indian etc. and won’t bother.
Mixed-race users should not have to pick "mixed" or "other" as our race—it's not representational of who we are. All users should be able to accurately reflect their identity in a manner most comfortable to them.
Maximizing this kind of flexibility and giving users agency in self-identification would hopefully combat negative race-related issues on the app—as well as eliminating the dreaded "what are you?" conversation.

This should always be required
I would like to see a couple of new characteristics to Grindr: Are you a smoker? If you select, "mixed" as your race, please clarify the races that make you mixed? For example: German/Italian, Afro-American/Latino, etc. Thank you!
We shouldn’t have to pay for XTRA to do this. I live in an area where it’s 98% white cis males. Personally I prefer black guys and should not be subjected to the XTRA fee to be able to connect with other ethnicities. To have to pay for that filter just seems so rigid and out dated. Is 2019 you shouldn’t be having an ethnicity filter as a privilege it’s crazy! Take away this privilege and let all users have access to this filter and let us reach out to each other and connect, don’t be that Donald Trump wall in our society.
Just say you're racist
I hear you but as a person of color to be honest we are tired of seeing ur guys profiles with " I love blacks!!" Hitting me up calling me chocolate. THIS IS NOT OK. only non people of color have an issue with this.
"As a dark skinned man, I couldn’t agree more."
So you need to refer to your skin to form an opinion? That comment stereotypes the dark-skinned into not being able to think as individuals.
"It’s about time we have a mechanism to make people aware of a racist profile."
A racist profile speaks for itself. People are unaware of a profile being so because they thing otherwise. You are just trying to make out problems that don't exist and force them onto other people. You make up your mind, they make up theirs. We do not need your "mechanism" to brainwash others into your somewhat sad mindset.
Try using your grey matter instead of your skin to think. It's very liberating.
"Race is an antiquated social construct rooted in racism and to uphold white supremacy. You’ve got to do better"
Nice to see you plant the flag of racism even in this thread Steven El Truinbador..
"The burden to "block" racist users should not fall on those targeted"
Idiotic in the extreme. It is for victims to report it. No victims means no problems and free speech being suppressed by patronising assumption.
"Second, profiles with "no ____" should not, I think, be tolerated when they are exclusionary on the basis of race or, for that matter, body type.
The ignorance expressed here is unbelievable. This site is about quick hook-ups based upon physicality and things like "no fatties/blacks/oldies" are clearly in that very context of physicality to save everyone from wasting time. If my race, age, body type falls outside of a users tastes whilst all other fall within I am grateful that they took the trouble to say so.thus saving me time, hassle and rejection.
Hi, in english, Indian people may be people from India or native people from Brazil or North America. So as i am Goan, from India always lived in Portugal. You translate indian to INDIO(as native people from Americas. An indian from India, for portuguese speakers, should be written as INDIANO.
Everyone who lives here and reads my profile, see INDIO, in spite on INDIANO.It is completely different. I hope you understand this, as this is also a prejudice issue.
I have written to you twice, and i didn't know you would solve this by email.
Since there is a way for Xtra users to filter people by race, then it would be helpful for us to filter guys who are interested in the race that we identify with. For example, I am Asian. I would like for the grid to show users who are interested in Asian guys. This way, people can see others who are mutually interested.
