More sophisticated profile
Even if it’s a hookup, most times you are going to want something to talk about before you unzip. Profiles are always loaded with user’s ridiculously rules, qualifications and expectations. Having a place to connect with someone on the basis of sports, education, jobs, interest would be a plus
And filter options. There's literally nothing wrong with adding more of these because if you leave them out, it'd make no difference.
But for those who really want to accurately describe what their desires are, this could definitely coin a win for us. What I *can* understand is that the less on a profile the more room for chatting... but grindr is multipurpose so I'd say it's still a solid idea.
Here's some prompts/fields that could be put in:
- Are you: Masculine/Feminine/Androgynous/Other?
- Sexuality: Gay, Bi, Straight, Curious, Other?
Face pics: (same prompts as send NSFW?)
- can host? y/n
- can travel? y/n
- driver? y/n
And all of these should have filters for them which would be so good! Also filters for ethnicity (again...), gender, all that stuff. I guarantee you'll get more people buying Xtra because of what it could offer with this suggestion.
I’m a bottom and though I can filter only tops, not everyone puts “top” on their profile. I’d rather filter out everyone who puts “bottom” on their profile so I don’t see the sea of bottoms on grindr.

The problem here is that it IS a feature, but it's restricted to Xtra. Since position is such an integral part of gay dating, I feel this shouldn't be something that's restricted behind a paywall. It used to be free, and then they changed it.. It should be reverted back. The other things I agree can be part of Xtra because they are "extra". Position such as top, bottom or verse is extremely important to gay dating.. it makes no sense for me, as a top, to talk to and date another top..
Please add “spoken languages” in the user profile (perhaps under “Stats”?).
This could be a useful feature because many users write the languages they speak in the “About Me” section, and this would free up some real estate. Also it would be cool if this field became a filter option, allowing users to find other users based on the languages they speak.

I looked through the features that Xtra and Unlimited gave as I was absolutely certain that a longer About Me and more detailed profile was going to be a primary selling point, as I completely agree that the Tweet-sized About Me is the worst feature of the platform, and no: it's not even available when paying for it.
As noted, it's just encouraging shallowness and wasting people's time having to state what their criteria are in chat whereas it could just be right there in their About Me.
For example, I'm not interested in anyone who can't be bothered to get an HIV test at least every other month when they are hooking up with strangers, nor trust enough to show it (which I always will.) Plus I am only interested in one activity, and not in others which are considered almost required, and I'd like to explain why and how I plan to make that one activity as good as I possibly can, so someone can choose to pursue or move on, but 255 characters doesn't begin to cut it. The result is wasted time and effort and disappointment for both of us when we get chatting. I'd upgrade at least to Xtra JUST FOR THIS... give me at least 1K characters to play with. If guys don't have time to read it, I don't have time for them. And one photo is 20x or larger, even a thumbnail.. it's not as though it's a data storage issue.
Education is great...showes me how much I still don't know about people
255 characters just isn’t enough to share something interesting about yourself.
Add in a feature to look for the different types. This way we don’t have to look at other bottoms or tops when we’re looking for the opposite
I already get enough shit with my body and stuff dont need people tell me how dumb i am

The need for more characters is very important to find a good match
Tottaly agree. Body shaming is a major issue driving depressin, suicide and unacceptablnce in the gay community. In a world where men are pressured into fitting into a certain "body type" this filter discriminates and shames those who don't fit the stereotypical "gay body". It should be removed.
It woukd be super awesome to have much more than 243 characters to describe yourself.
It would be nice and so easy to do.
This is a hookup app. Not a place for golddiggers.

I'm a teacher
Just need more words in my description
On almost every type of social media platform almost any app has made it so the about me is either A unlimited characters OR B around 3000 maximum.
250 is not enough Especially in Covid
Exactly! Same goes for ALL the filters.
* ALL FILTERS MATTER*
Seems awfully classist
if ethnicity filter is racist and is bad, then body type filter should be removed as well cos it's as bad as ethnicity filter, its body-shaming so how come you are ok with that? if you want to be so correct about it then remove that filter too
